Interesting story about Bullet trains and their prospects in the US.

Someone needs to look down the line. As we add more lanes to our highways, they fill up, then more are added and so on…we need an alternative to air travel and roads. I am sure, in the future, that gas prices will once again be very high and stay there. Then they will ask why we don’t have trains. No one wants to plan for the future-our politicians only plan to their next election. We no longer have leaders.
Jerry Barnes said:And, as these non-safe extremely small battery cars become derigure(Remember the Tata? That size.), no one will be able to use them for much more than driving to the corner LHS, forcing us into mass transit, which doesn't exist, because of what Jerry said above. We won't even be able to bring our G-Gauge locomotive home in them! Might have to ride the G-gauge loco home, instead, but I digress....

But, you didn’t hear that from me, Jerry said it, and we are not supposed to talk about politics or religion anymore.
I wonder which category this falls under?
The problem with High Speed Trains is that they normally at least require a track upgrade , or more likely , brand new track . You have to consider some unusual effects with HST’s , one of which is the need for a long transit over small hills . The French TGV track was suitably “ironed down” to prevent trains getting airborne over humps . I kid you not !!! The original plan to follow contours was too risky . We are talking hills here .
Given the long trains extant in the USA , you will need dedicated track , or it just won’t work . Imagine the HST slowing down for a 1 mile long goods ? (freight , sooooorry) .
Then you will have the problem of who is to develop the motive power and rolling stock . Or would the US buy overseas ? Thought not .
I betcha there aren’t any within the next ten years . Then , with the first grade crossing crash , they’ll all be grounded .
Best of luck , though .
