High barometric pressure, train is loud tonite

I guess it is the high barometric pressure and a lack of wind that I can hear the train whistle from down in the valley real clear tonight. It is running on the NS mainline, formerly the Reading RR’s trackage.

They have about three crossings to signal, and sometime a stop and start at the diner. When the spur is used that runs through a tunnel under my house (almost) I can hear the unit working hard to climb the grade and signal through the tunnel and before the crossing on my side of the hill.

Anyone know where to find track maps with ownership and grades, crossings etc for my area?

Dave,
My brother has some software that I believe has what you’re looking for.
I’ll ask him about it. Or you can talk to him about it in York.

You might try googleing railfaning, or something to that effect also put your area in the search.

That happens here, too. Train is about 3/4 mile from here, and sometimes we can barely hear the crossing whistle. Other times, it sounds like its going right through the back yard, you can hear the rail noise and everything.

Is that this crossing, Bob? (Lousy Google photo.)

Yup. That’s right down the street.

That little crossing shanty looks like a prototype for a Pola I once had.
I like the building across the tracks as well.
There has to be some great structures in your neck of the woods to model.

The station right there is neat, too. The guy that owns it works on old stoves. He takes the old wood and coal fired stoves, cleans them up, and adds modern gas guts to them. Pretty neat, but the place is ugly as hell with all the crap outside. The station is nice, though, he does take good care of the building. He’s even working to get the proper permits to rebuild the carriage house that was next to it.

This little stone station is in the town I grew up in. Its also on my “to do” list.

There should be a law against that clutter!
Maybe your community can rally against it.
It is a beautiful station.

The building on the other side of the road from the station is neat, too. Used to be a general store, with apartments behind and above it. Now its a liquor store with apartments.

What a joy, to live above a liquor store. Is the owner a blond or redhead?
