Hickory, NC National Narrow Gauge Convention 9/2011

I’d like to start the conversation about the National Narrow Gauge Convention at Hickory, NC in 2011. It is going to be September 7 - 10, 2011. Who is planning on going? Anybody set up their plans, yet? We will probably drive home on the 10th, because of an obligation with Jan’s Dad on the 11th. Our plan is to camp. What are other people planning to do?

I plan to go…haven’t gotten into the details yet…

I’d really like to go. Looks like about a 2-3 day drive for me with the camper.

FEBT Member Bill Bloomgren produced this promotional video…

This is pretty much a local event for me. A little over an hour away. I’m sure I’ll be there on Saturday.
I’ll just have to see when the time comes if I have any vacation days available for Wednesday thru Friday.

Ric- Planning on attending any of the events, such as Tweetsie Railroad ?

Here is a link showing some of what you might see on the Doe River Gorge Excursion on Tuesday, prior to the convention.

I know something, but I’m not sure if I can say it out-loud…

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We are doing are best to come. Plan to camp in the area and attend as much as we can of what sounds like fun. We have ridden the Doe River Gorge, courtesy of Matt’s efforts and consider it be a life time experience. The Tweetsie, like the EBT, is history that should be explored.

Jon, You should fly in. It would save 4 or 5 travel/vacation days. Ralph

take amtrak to a close location, then rent a car... :)

Pick me up some victorian furniture while down there Jon!

I’m supposed to be on the layout tour, but I’ve fallen behind on scenery. I’m calling in some reinforcements… so I may be back on again; I dunno, I gotta get hold of Johnny Graybeal and discuss options… I dunno if it’s too late to get back on or if I was ever “off” and am therefore still “on.”

That said, even if I’m not on the “official” tour, I’m planning to be available for visitors the same way I would if I were, from those of you on LSC, and other places who know me and would be interested. Come by, see and run some trains, wonder why I have an indoor layout with a huge back yard… enjoy the air conditioning…

LOL … that’s not a secret, Cale. Wondered if that’s what you meant. You gonna finally pay us a visit of state?

wow, look out! there are 2 of us on the site…didn’t realize I had 2 ID’s…

If’n we can start working on the details (not your scenery details:) maybe we could do a family trip to Tweetsie and Rural Hall

cale

Will there be red carpets, fried chicken and sweet tea?

Whew…that’s a relief. I thought you were going to tell us the world was ending May 21st and we’d all miss the convention

Hi, just signed up and came across this thread. I didn’t know there were so many people around who had interest in LS trains. I wont be attending but I may go check out that narrow gauge in Wallace just see what its all about.

Welcome, Ryan.

This is a couple hour drive from Hickory but well worth the trip if anybody has the time. Nice diesel excursion.
Also a great O scale museum and nice layout.
