Large Scale Central

Hi, I'm new!

Allow me to introduce myself: I’m also known as Gerrit Postma, I live in Veendam in the Northern province of Groningen in the Netherlands. Trains have been a part of my life as long as I can remember, which is a major part of my present 51 years. I’ve been married for 30 years to my American wife Candy, we have a 22 year old son who just moved out.

I used to live in the East of the country, and as luck will have it, in both cases there was/is a museum railway nearby - my office is a few hundred meters from a depot, and it is wonderfull to work in summer with the window open and hear that whistle wail.

My G-scale road is loosely based on the many pre-war local railroads and rural tramways that criss-crossed the country. Atmosphere is more important to me than the exact number of rivets. Right now, I’m still creating a space to lay out some track, so I just build more stuff, since that is what I do most - conversions of LGB, or scratchbuilding based on some LGB parts. Finished are for instance a Backer&Rueb tramway engine, a wooden caboose and (okay, not historical, but it looks great!) an enormous elephant car for my circus train. Many more projects are in some stage of construction.

I must thank Phil Creer for pointing me in the direction of this site.

I hope to learn a lot, and if I can help with info I’ll gladly be of assistance.
