Here's Walter; my first clay figure attempt

Good evening, So my best friend and I are discussing figures for the railroad a couple weeks ago, and he reminds me that he’s worked with modeling clay and has built some vases, etc…and then about a week later he brings over a figure that he has made, a pretty cool looking hobo with a small campfire and a dog;

Granted it’s a tad on the big side, but will pass the 10 foot rule with ease, and it’s his first figure. So we spend a little time on the figure forum, he talks me into trying my hand at making a figure, just to see if I can maintain the concentration and last night we made a couple of foil armatures, and today after work I stopped by a craft store, picked up some sculpy and he brought some of his over, and we start working on the armatures. So, I’d like everyone to meet Walter:

My first thought is that he’s going to be a conductor, holding a lantern, waiting for passengers to board the train. My first attempt at lips was a complete laugh, so I tried to hide his lips with the mustache, nice, bushy, what you might see from a turn of the century cowpoke who’s decided it might be a good idea to make some money with the railroad. So, you figure folks, let me know what I need to work on? I haven’t decided yet if Walter will have a full head of hair, or might remain bald. I still have to shape and mold the hat, and have some work to do on the uniform before we bake him, but it was starting to get late and I didn’t want to start making more mistakes. Let me know where I can improve this. Michael[:p]

put a hat on’em…hehe

maybe…

I rather like him bald. Kindof a Jamie Heineman look.

I admire clever people who can do neat stuff like that.

I don't recall the name, but when I put the mustache on, I thought of Sam Elliott..just for the mustache though.

He looks great! Figures are one of the things I wish I could do, but every time I try and make one, it ends up looking like a roughly-person-shaped-piece-of-scupley, not a figure…

Misspelled Mythbuster.
