Help with LGB 5180 Switch Control Box

Hello:

I’m getting ready to wire my layout and I have a few questions about the 5180.

On the back terminal of the 5180 it shows:
3~4
and
1-2

If I’m using the 5180 to power lights, do I need to use the 3~4?

And if I’m using the 5180 to turn power on/off to different track blocks, do I need to use the 1-2?

Thank you.

It looks like those are the power inputs, either from an LGB transformer or another switch box in a daisy chain configuration. Are there terminals or a place for terminals on the opposite end of the box?

I found a manual on ManualsLib that’s for the 51750 and 51800 control boxes, but it looks like it works the same as the 5180. Maybe this will explain it better?

here’s the manual (scroll through it for the 5180 schematic)

https://www.onlytrains.com/manuals/51750_51800.pdf

there are 4 single pole, single throw switches in it.

AC or DC input does not matter (that’s what the diagram is trying to say)

terminal 1 is common… terminal 2 is switched to the 4 “outputs”.
