Help with a Vintage B.mann Bug Mauler

I really like the lines of the B.mann Big Hauler 4-6-0 and they are very cheap fodder for many bashes of distinctive Baldwin steam locomotives. My modelling buddies tell me Baldwin never made any ugly locomotives.

Anyways ,I got a functioning (with noise) version Four Big Hauler 4-6-0 off eBay for $41. On tearing it down the main drive gear is quite worn but not completely stripped. Off course this is the “Achilles Heel” of these older models and much has been written on it and the relief that came with the 2000 “annies” and the newer Bug maulers.

Has anyone had any luck getting a good replacement gear for this beast (version 4 Big Hauler)? I note that Barry’s Big Trains has closed with the well deserved retirement of its boss. I have called NWSL and they can “custom make” a gear but do not have any ready replacements in stock. B.mann has a replacement gear set and motor for their newer models that is fairly reasonable but I have no idea if this could be placed in the version four chassis.

You guys are a wealth of knowledge and wonder if any off you have “recycled” these older models and their finicky main gears???

Barry is still here. The web-site and credit card sales are no more.
I’m sure if you send him a message, he can probably hook you up with a gear.

I left you a message on either Bachmann site or MLS.

Don’t count me out, yet

I have the replacement gear for the type four, but it amounts to being a temporary fix.

Also have 4-6-0 BBT chassis/drives.

I am currently building an outdoor garden railroad. Because of the high cost of the track etc.,I have had to be careful on purchases for motive power for this rr.

Don’t write me off,yet.

I have the stock gears, but this drive is fallible.

I do have my standard BBT drives available.
