My current project is a shop.
Looking to get rid of the new wood look. Should I be looking at stains, inks or another product. What have you used that you could recomend. What have you tried that I should avoid? Thanks for your feedback. CD

I read in Jack Verducci’s Building Structures for Your Garden Railroad that he uses a baking soda wash to weather his wood. He mixes a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water, and brushes it on. There was no mention of how long to leave it on. I suppose that would vary depending on how much weathering you want.
I suppose that you could also experiment with adding a 10% India Ink wash to highlight the grain.
You just have to experiment to get the result that you want. The hardest part is remembering what you did, so that you can repeat it. I recommend keeping a journal, or notebook of some kind.
Not that I do that, keep a journal, I just recommend it…
