HELP!!! How do you get into the cab of an SD-45.

I have just started converting two latest run SD-45’s to RCS battery R/C.
No problem with the installation, done heaps over the years.

The first one I opened up has all of the parts inside the cab floating around loose. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get into the cab to glue the parts back into position whilst I have the loco apart.

Would some kind soul be kind enough to explain how to do it please. I did look at Greg’s site but could not find any tips.

Figured it out.

That will teach me not to give up so easily.

The two hooked tabs inside and under the cab were glued to the steps moulding. I suspect by paint. Broke the bond and it came apart easily.

Glad you figured it out Tony. I’ve done it but don’t remember how I did it!

Hi Jon.

It is actually quite easy. The problem for me was the hooked tabs in the cab were glued to the side pods by paint. I don’t like forcing things.

Methinks it needs a pic to show what to do. Will do so during the installation.

No explosive devices required?

I usually use a hammer, If that doesn’t work I use a bigger hammer.

I agree, Nick. Never force anything… Just get a bigger hammer.

I was gonna suggest using the cab door…

Sometimes it’s the easiest solutions…

I did not have to worry most of mine came in kit form when I got mine several month ago. Easy to reistall every thing. Later RJD

Big improvement with the second SD-45.

Only two windows needed re-inserting. Still had to remove the cab to get into it to fix them.

Once again the tabs were glued with paint.
