Help from Canada

For the past few weeks weather in most of the US has been nearly unbearable. Here in Western CT we are known for sticky summers, but nothing like the string of 100 degree days we got last week.

Last week the only relief I could find was enjoying the case of Alexander Kieth’s I imported on the way home from the invasion while hiding indoors in the AC.

This week the Canadians have sent more gifts- not those pseudo Canadians from the Ottawa Valley ;), but the REAL Canadians up in Hudson Bay :o The gifts are in the form of cool Canadian air masses. This week we’ve had bright days and cool evenings. I turned off my AC and opened the windows yesterday and all night last night for the first time in weeks. Today another, even cooler air mass will arrive from Hudson Bay bringing with it what is being billed as the most spectacular weekend of the summer.

So, for those who think Canadians are full of hot air - I beg to differ - it’s the COOL Canadian air that they are known best for. Well we might need to make one exception.

Jon we got our heat relief in the form of a local celebrity here “Coastal Eddy”

He lives offshore and takes the form of a cut off air flow that funnels coastal overcast onshore, effecivly dropping temps 15-20 degrees. Its hot again here, 100 today, but according to his publisist on the local news, Eddy will be back on duty by this weekend.

Hi Jon,

Good one!

Here in the Okanagan Valley we have a similar complaint.

Where I live we are 183km (115m) from the US border - due south of here. We do get plenty of hot air coming up the valley from the US source. In the past week complete with smoke - the official version is forest fires, but it could be that someone was “fuming”.

The remedies are similar: go for walks in the early morning, stay out of the hot air during the day with a cool drink. If beer is called for, it is Okanagan Spring http://www.okspring.com/

And remember: stay cool on the fora.

And I didn’t even know you were Canadian HJ

Thanks OK, Jon, there are enough who refer to me as “THAT @#*&^% SWISS”

But it was worth mentioning the reverse effect we get here in the valley, but it is good for the fruit crops!

I don’t mind that much in the Summer - matter of fact it beats what happens around the Great Lakes - but it is a nuisance in the winter. Interferes with our perfect snow on the mountain!

It has actually cooled down here as well, but not from Canada, the Pacific Ocean. From 110’s to the low 90’s in a week for the passed 2 weeks. It has been really nice!

I think it’s in the high 60’s F here in Deer Park, today. Bloody cold!
