Perhaps not. We’ve been known to go wrong on more than one occasion
Hi Al
I think you’ll have a great time here. On this list you will find the answer to most any question and be sure to ask. People on this list are always willing to help.
Hey Al! Nice to see you over here!
When are you going to hire me to get that permanent layout built?
-Brian
Thanks again, guys.
Hi Brian - when I hit the Lotto and can afford a privacy fence around my backyard (got prices from $10K to $15K last year ), then I will be calling you for help with the heavy earth moving work. I want to build a raised layout …

Al -
Why don’t you go ahead and build it without the fence. Run house current through the rails when you are not running trains., That should defer any sub-humans or animals from disturbing the track more than once.

Al,
When you put in that fence make sure you leave enough space for access with small earth moving equipment, moving all the dirt, rock etc. by hand is good for conditioning - if that’s what turns your crank - but still a nuisance. Oh BTW, there’s no better time to start scratch building than prior to layout construction, by the time you get the layout up you’ll have some unique structures, too. No, I’m not talking about the first attempts, but those tend to be unique, too.

Hans - moving dirt and rock by hand is possible but in my condition I think the completion date would move out to 2020 or beyond….
I can appreciate the comments about first efforts in scratchbuilding…. that would make a great new thread topic here - everyone posting pix of their first scratchbuilt item - if it’s still around.
Jon Radder said:Jon - I like it! But…. I don't think my town will. And I do sit on a few town committees so probably best not to be to provocative. I do get frequent deer in the yard from a nearby wildlife preserve, possums, raccoons, neighbors' cats, and scores of tree rats (squirrels) so having to remove all the dead carcasses might get to be a bit of a nuisance….. PLus SWMBO loves wildlife so I would surely become persona non grata if I did this…

Cook raccoon in water with onions until it falls off the bones. Separate bones from meat (shredding meat) saving water. Rinse and soak beans overnight (or not), use raccoon water to cook beans. Use your own chili recipe. Voila! Raccoon chili!

Don’t forget to save the pelt so you can make your own coonskin cap.

Wow!!! That’s great, thanks Steve - the local wild-life zoo has about eight of ‘em so I might nip over there later and thin them out with the ol’ night-sight-equipped 22-250!
Only kiddin’.
