Drove past an abandoned Hummer in a snowbank

Tom,
Happens all the time out here. When I used to commute to work during snows, SUVs, big 4 x 4 trucks, etc, all in the ditch.
Meanwhile, compacts just moving right along…

When I had my Samurai, I learned the sad truth of giant 4x4s, the bigger they are, the faster they sink…

…in snow, water, mud, but that little Samurai just rolled along, considered buying another one, just for fun, only to find that they are extremly in demand with off roaders!

John, the reason that the compact is driving along is that the driver has a brain! On our side of the mountains, we have lots of LARGE 4X4’s that they still drive at 70 MPH on the ice and snow but can not stop or control any better than the compact even less so due MASS! Tell me, Victor, is the little flag so the owner can find the vehicle later? And yes I own a 4x4 but I try to drive with my brain turned on! Now where is that darn switch anyway!

Once the snow melts in the spring, we’ll be able to make up for lost time.

I’ve been a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator since college … my favorite call like that involved the shortest call notes I’ve ever entered …

Man calls 9-1-1 from the local boat launch … left his Audi SUV running at the ramp, went to answer nature’s call, and when he returned, the car was not visible except for a stream of rising bubbles. Entered his location, his name, his phone number etc …

And the call notes? “QUATTRO SINKO.”

I’m betting people remember it to this day, other calls with minor novellas to describe the problem notwithstanding.

Paul, when I had my Nissan Frontier crew cab, I never forgot that it had a high center of gravity, had little weight over the rear wheels, that it was prone to breaking away when cornering and was easy to hydroplane in the wet, so when it rained I slowed down, but other knuckleheads in similar or bigger trucks & SUVs seamed to think (and continue to think) their vehicles were invulnerable making them omnipotent. One really big storm we were driving from LA to Palmdale thru the mountains on Hwy 14, I kept my speed under 60 due to the heavy rain, I was getting blasted past by these guys going 75-80 in heavy rain, we caught up with several of them soon enough, 8 of them in fact, rolled over, or spun and wrecked, all full size trucks & SUVs, all were driving like God was personally protecting them because they were in a giant SUV…doubt they learned anything though, as Larry the Cable Guy says, you can’t fix stupid.

Victor, I hope you didn’t laught to hard!!

Speaking of morons…
180mph…no way. I’ve driven 140mph and trust me, the light poles pass much quicker than they do in this video

Dunno, Ralph. Depends on how far apart the poles are. He prob hit 180 for a few seconds on the clear straights. In '73 I had my Honda 350-4 up to only 105 for a mile or two and that was way too fast for me to see clearly - the air got in round my helmet mask and made my eyes water. Rode in a '68 Shelby GT500 at 145 for a few miles on the Baltimore Beltway just before rush hour and that was a (incredibly stupid) hair raising experience too. I think the biker in this vid has a death wish waiting to happen.

Was watching “Top Gear” clips the other day and watched James May take a Veyron out to see if it would really do 253. It did. Gracefully.

i had a lot of pickups and 4x4s over the years. although we got no snow and ice here, we got earth-roads of clay down here, that turn to liquid soap if it rains. i still have to find a 4x4, that serves better on slippery ground than the good old brasilian Ford 1000 (4x2 with locked aixle) or the Volkswagen minibus.

Found out 4 low (and 15mph) on black ice roads in a Ramcharger was really stupid… can you say runner sled?

:open_mouth:

Ok, so I’ll have to trade in my Veyron for a Super Sport.
