Heaven Help Me!

The 2-truck shay I just bought on ebay just arrived. Dusty, but runs like a top, with very minimal repair needed to a few points. My plan is to convert it to this layout as was original equipment on the Mt Tam railway that I am loosely modeling. Hmm, will need to experiment to see how tight a circle I can get it to go around.

Sir - you’ll need to carry out a thorough check and lube job on this loco ere you put it on the tracks. The recommended lube sets are either LaBelle or Hobb-e-lube [sp]. They contain the three or fourdifferent grades of oil and grease that you will need to do the job correctly. I’m assuming that you have the video/DVD showing how to do it?

My two-truck Shay is now coming up to thirteen years old, and still runs like a sewing machine [sounds like one as well]. That’s only because it gets cared for. As the Bachmann blurb reminds you, this is prolly THE most complex model locomotive ever made, period. There are lots of lube points, and to ensure a long and reliable life they all need attention.

You, of course, make a very good point. I just gave her a few seconds at 12v to make sure she turned over, but yes lube and clean are next on the list. I do not have the video and will be trying to find that information online, unless you have a link that would work.

I horse traded for a used one in need of major repairs about a year ago. I think I finally got a copy of the video, but not sure - I’ll look.

Haven’t checked them out yet, but this site has links to Youtube videos… http://tjstrains.com/1118/features-and-maintenance-bachmann-locomotives/

Yep! That’s exactly what I found too, and, as I already have the lube, will be cleaning and greasing on Sunday! Thanks!

I love the lines on that thing…next thing ya’ know…nope not gonna say it!

OH SH!T Rooster is gonna build a 2 truck shay!!! Go for it Roos. Is it done yet?

I’ve got a couple of Bachmann Two Truck Shays that would be great for kitbashing if someone would be interested. Planned to put on e-bay. You can make offer.

All our Shays over here on the Port Orford Coast Railroad/way, the lumbering end of the Old Mill Lumber RR, get looked after like they were babies - the reason is simple - there is not a soul over here who could fix 'em if they were to ever go TU. Same for the Heisler and Climax locos on the roster.

Care and attention pays off.
