Heartening message to start the week

Sent by a friend who’s a teacher-librarian in a high school:

A couple of kids had spoiled my week with thoughtless behaviour, but today all faith in teenagers is restored.

At our monthly formal assemblies the national anthem is sung unaccompanied by a brave little Year 8 princess with a heartbreaking voice.

At today’s ceremony the wheels fell off. In front of hundreds, including her teenage friends, she missed a stanza. She soldiered on, but became flustered and lost it. Silence.

From among the cynical older boys emerged her big brother. He strode up the steps, gave her a hug and took over the microphone, completing the national anthem. Most of the kids sang along and applauded both of them.

There were few dry eyes.

Thought this was worth sharing, have a great day! Janine.
