I think he lives just west of St Louis, doesn’t he? That area got clobbered by tornadoes, from what I understand, listening to the news.
Hi Steve, Dick and all,
We are just fine. Down at AndyC’s for Ops Weekend with our trailer. No trouble on the home front or marina, except high water. My bed is dry. Flooding was a problem at the lake, but was becoming more manageable and this last round of flooding on the Mississippi River may bring the lake higher, again. Floods are always bad, droughts are worse.
We have lots of family in the Oklahoma City area, but so far all our kin have dodged the bullet.
Thanks for the thoughts and concerns, but we are just busy playing with trains.
Who is Ric Golding???
Just the squatter in your driveway.
Glad all is well with you Ric.
Happy about your kin , too.
We did have some club members in western area of St. Louis area have their railroad and house damaged by the storms. Time for some rebuilding. Everyone is okay, stuff can be replaced or rebuilt.
Glad everyone is OK.
I’m curious about something since my insurance company just changed the terms of our boat policy; Are these storms named or numbered? Our blizzards and hurricanes get official names. Insurance company has decided to triple the delectable for named/numbered storms. WTFO - That’s the only reason I’ve ever made a claim in 15 years of holding the policy.

Wonderful…now the National Weather Service will start numbering/naming every system with the potential for damage
Ralph
Actually, I meant to type deductible. Stupid spell checker.
The insurance company finds it delectible. Hi guys. These companies are machines designed to separate you from your money, and they’re good at it. Just take a look at their corporate offices. Glad you’re OK Ric. The big tornado last week, that hit those schools, that was just heartbreaking, it hit that town (Moore, is it called?) like something Satanic…
I didn’t realize these OK storms came so close to you guys. Be safe!

Jon,
Check the actual wording of the policy… I had earthquake insurance as a rider on our homeowners for a couple of years, but then USAA decided to change the terms of the policy. Under the new policy USAA would not cover any earth movements (ie anything related to an actual earthquake) but yet they wanted me to renew my earthquake policy. I’ve heard similar things with flood insurance, it doesn’t actually cover damage occurred during a flood.
So if you do add a rider to your homeowners read it carefully to see what it actually covers.
I like my USAA insurance for everything else, but they sure tried to pull a fast one with the earthquake insurance…
So you may be paying for blizzard/hurricane insurance, but you still might not be covered…
Craig
Glade to here all is well with you and friends. Thanks for the up date. Later RJD
So then, the early reports of you and Andy being sucked off to the Land of Oz to fight the flying monkeys were greatly exaggerated. That’s good. The Good Witch was worried, as she couldn’t find either of you.

My understanding is that the "earth movement" exclusion refers to things like landslides, sinkholes, settling of fill, etc. But you should ask your insurance agent/broker to be sure.

Ray,
I thought the same thing too, but after I read the updated policy it specifically said that it did not cover any damage from earth movement (with the definition of earthquake included) because it was ‘an act of God’. My advise, just double check to see what your coverage actually covers (and as you suggest, talk to the insurance company)…
