Large Scale Central

Hartlands mini series scale?

I got my two log cars and Gondola (going to converte into a tender) It looks good with my LGB engine from the value starter set. I want to use my Bachmann logging caboose with it but not sure if it looks silly. I am also converting the LGB passenger car into a boxcar. The box car I can make a little smaller unless I can get away with the current size. I am shooting for 1:20-1:22 scale. Will this work or does it really look silly together worst. I am looking for an industrial RR that will work with my Bachmann. Here are some pictures with the combinations. Be honest and any ideas will be great. I am still having a hard time with this scale thing especially when throwing industrial stock into the mix. Also what are the scale of the Hartland engines. I really like them? With caboose

With caboose and LGB pas car (will be kitbashed into a boc car.

most everything from HLW is 1/24…They make some rugged stuff!

I doubt very much if the Hartland Mini series cars are built to any accepted scale, they are just built to a size. They are wonderful kit bashing material, and very robust.

Shawn,

Don’t worry so much about scale. To my eye, your grouping looks great together. I’ve seen several layouts in Britain using similar equipment and I think they make for an attractive theme.

I have a gaggle of these little buggers they all look just fine behind my 1/22 stuff.

Shawn I read that you intend to convert the passnger car into a boxcar? Dont if you can, every good RR need a some passenger revinue, I recently built a boxcar on top of a HLW car and was very pleased with its outcome.

Maybe this would be something you’d consider?

Vic, thanks I did consider ordeing another hartland log car and building a boxcar from that. I think I will go with your idea, thanks

I’ll try to take some pics of the boxcar I made.

I just used a boxcar photo from Sierra Models I beleive as a guide, but I think Accucraft also has a small boxcar now that can also be used as a model. Mine is solid, no opening doors, it was just easier that way. Right now the car is packed up and ready to go to the BTS, so I’ll try to take some pics at the show.

THanks
One more question when I kitbash the gondala into a wood tender is there anything I should add. I know you mentioned a while back a tank and cut out one of the sides"? IF ANYONE HAS SOME PICTURES OF A WOOD TENDER THAT WOULD BE GREAT. i CANT FIND ANYTHING IN DETAIL OR FOCUS ON JUST THE TENDER. tHANKS FOR ALL THE HELP (iI T REALIZED i HIT THE CAP BUTTON, TOO LAZY TO RETYPE IT OOPS)

Shawn,

For the tender I would get a PVC cap for the water tank & cut the front out so the fireman can get to the wood… Might take 1 or 2 of the boards off the side & back also…
