I saw that Hartland has a sale on the purple Mac for $35. Good deal for anyone needing a motor block or a good kitbash project.
Anyone know what the axle to axle measurement is on this ? Very tempting to get a good block for some future projects.
Right at 3 inches, looking at the one dismantled on my work table.
Dang, and I have like $3 and change in the bank until next week, such is life lived on disability.
Wheel tread diameter about 1 and 7/16 with flanges about 1/8 inch deep.
Block itself is 4 & 7/8 long, with its top surface about 1 & 15/16 above railhead.
That looks good if I could just figure out how to place an order!
Mike:
I’d suggest that you select the “Contact Us” button on the top right side of their home page and choose your method of contact, i.e. phone, fax, email, etc.
Thanks Mark, I’ll try to call them tomorrow.
Mike
Just bought 2. (Shipping for me was $13.75 for 1, $14.75 for 2) Plan to experiment with the Railpro system as stall current on these is less than 1 amp! Thanks Shawn
Thanks for the heads up on the sale. They actually answered the phone to take my order I ordered two myself, more Christmas shopping now completed…Bill
Gotz me 2 Macks ordered, plus they have a massive killer deal on their slopeback tender so I ordered 2 of those as well. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Tenders for less than 4usd. Those G, or from their mini series ? Can’t find other mention or visual than that on sales pg.

Picture shows G scale couplers, they look the ones that were part of the 0-4-0s they sold a few years
I am chronically short of tenders, so I really need the two I ordered. CONFIRMED the tenders ARE large scale.
Yes, I was thinking of buying the tenders just for the trucks, and other detail parts I could scavenge off of them. But I have way too much shi stuff already.
Thanks.
Fantastic pricept. for added detail for engine house area or a bone yard, lite----heavily weathered !
I also thought that the couplers looked like G scale (H’n’Ls) but not being familiar with H-L-W lineup, unsure. Now looking at the 2 pg. ad by J&W’, within same GR mag/oct 2000 issue as the “Mighty Mack” review by R. Schafer, I do see all the H’nLs.

David mentioned buying the tenders for the trucks and other parts,
I’m not familiar with these tenders. Could the chassis/trucks be separated from the tank and used to build a piece of rolling stock on top?
Tom
I dunno about the chassis, but the trucks could.

Hey Randy, just remembered (discovered?) I have some pics of the guts of the drive available,
Exterior shape:
And it snaps in to the bottom of the frame and deck molding: one end on an L tab the other with one of those half arrowhead shaped snap tabs.
The mack couplers are loops only, no hooks. I converted mine to Kadees.
Oh! Now that Dan mentions the couplers, here is what I did to mount Bachmann couplers on mine: knuckle on the Mack itself, and hook/loop on the 2 Mack-based Sparky electric locos. Styrene block is glued and screwed both so it will withstand buffing forces.

I’ve done similar with a block of basswood glued inside the base.
I thought about basswood for wood’s slight shock absorbing qualities but in the end decided non-porous material would be better since this thing has seen the rain, which is where spatters on frame interior came from.
