Large Scale Central

Happy New Year!

Yes, I did see the post wishing a Happy New Year for those Down Under. But wishing to include the rest of us as the date changes around the World, and with no offense meant to those Down Under.

Hoping the best to all and continued enjoyment of the World of Large Scale trains and the hobby it has created for all of us. It has truely been an interesting past year and for the best descriptive word to descibe it - “Memorable” comes to mind.

I think it is fair that we take time to reflect on what we have achieved in the hobby and its enjoyment. For some of us the hobby is just starting and for others it is maturing. After 12 years of large scale trains, I can say that we enjoy it as much now as we did in those first years. Projects are now getting done that were only wild dreams at the start. It is amazing how much LSC has contributed to keeping the enthusiasm fresh and for that, I thank Bob. For the ideas, debates (on and off subject) and all of the critques and comments, I thank all of you.

The last year has been good and the New Year sure looks promising.

Enjoy!

Happy new year, to everyone, no matter where you are…

Happy New Year to you Ric.
And Happy New Year to all.
As I mentioned in the other post, 2008 is the Chinese “Year of the Rat”.
Seems fitting.
It has been a rough year for many.
Any year I live through…is a good year.
Happy New Year.
Ralph

Unfortunately Chinese New Year is February 7, 2009. Still some Year of the Rat left!

Next year on the Chinese calendar is the Ox. Hope it’s better than the current year for all!

Wherever you are around the globe:

Happy New Year & Happy RRing,

Jerry

I began collecting LS rolling stock and building structures in '95 and laid the first operational track in '98. It has been a great run. Like most of the LSC members here, I continue to make improvements to the layout as I am able. Due to prevailing economic conditions, I probably will not be expanding the line this year, but have made considerable additions to my rolling stock over the last several months, adding both new diesel engines and additional passenger coaches–mostly Milwaukee Road heavyweights. Additionally, I will likely be adding one or two significant structures to my Cicely model layout as well. These are my version of Maurice Minnifield’s log home (there is a prototype in Roslyn, WA) AND the Milwaukee Road depot at nearby Cle Elum, WA. It has not been possible to run trains here since mid-October when a series of snow storms iced over the tracks. No improvements have been made to the line since that time. Most of the track is under a foot and a half of snow and ice. Today it is minus 45 F and the frigid temps may not yet have bottomed out. The nearby riverside temp reading is minus 49F. I operate a tavern here. There will be a New Year’s eve celebration, but it is likely to be a very limited one under the circumstances. I have my truck plugged in, but will avoid using it unless absolutely necessary to avoid unnecessary stress to the vehicle. Water to some of the buildings, including this one–my residence–has frozen for the duration (at least until we are out of this extreme cold spell) as of last night. Fortunately, this is not the case at the bar (300 feet away). One of my two wells had frozen at the well-head. I have recovered that one as of this morning. The other, which services the bar, remains fully functional–so far.

Oh cr*p :o
I thought the Chinese New Year began before ours. Oh well.
An Ox is strong. I would think it would be better than a rat.

Happy New Year to all!
Hoping everyone’s brings what they want.

Ron, I will now quit bitching about the cold! Of course I would have moved a long time ago! I just do not like snow, rain, or cold. I figuare that if the Maker (God) wanted us to live in this kinda weather He would have given us a nice fir coat and some insulating bluber! Paul

P.S. Even with long johns it was clod on the CCRy yesterday.
