HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As the world turns today, we will begin the process of welcoming 2007. It has been a great year with many gatherings of friends both in person and on these confuser screens. I hope the new year brings each of us what we want and not what we deserve.

Here’s to 2006 and what it gave us and here’s to 2007 and hopes that it will be as memorable and as great of an event.

Probably as memorable event as any of 2006 was the sitting in an unpowered motel room sharing snacks by flashlight with friends as we wondered what tomorrow will bring. Sometimes you can’t plan great events, they just happen.

The very best of the New Year to all of you.

And a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone from me too.

Yes Ric, memories of great times will never be lost.

It looks like New Years eve is going to be a good one. I got out of the "Date" that was being forced on me, involving driving. I'm now back into a celebrating mood.

I'm staying home by the fire with a few drams of Highland Park, a good book, and my own good company.

The same back to both of you! Of all my trips to the great white north, I’d have to say that 2006’s was the most memorable also. Being an old lineman, my arms still twitch when I remember that guy struggling to winch out that busted pole out on the highway…

Those Australians get the jump on us every hear[:D]

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. It has been a great and memorable year. I have fond memories chatting with all of you and special fond memories from the privilege of meeting some of you at Marty’s in September. Thank you all for those memories…!

Warren

Likewise, I wish a Happy New Year for all. It’s been a good train year and goals are for even a better 2007. Warren, I agree: It was great meeting so many of you at Marty’s in September.
JimC.

Hey - wasn’t that MY motel room??? Gawd. Ric’s best memory of 2006 was being with me in the dark :o

Truth be told that was a good time, and the day that followed turned out great despite the questionable begining.

Looking forward to many more in Augt Seven

Happ New Year Y’all

Hehe…you got it Bart.

On the monday after the Invasion we headed up to Corbeil to visit Rod Johnston’s layout. (See http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=6354 in the Conventions section) On the way up we ran into a humongeous thunder storm with a tornado touching down. Needless to say we arrived in North Bay and you guessed it…no power. Lines were down all over town and we had to take a round-about route just to get into the motel. Cell phone service was spotty at best and we didn’t know if Rod was still alive let alone still expecting us. So here we are all checked into a motel with no electricity and no phones. No restaurants are open so we all dug into the back of our vehicles to find whatever snacks we had laying around and proceeded to Jon’s room for a junk food fest. The rest is history…

Happy new year!

Welllllllll. I spent almost eight months working in Tokyo. Two weeks over in Oregon, a week back over with my family in SE Ontario.

Played trains in Tokyo, Yokohama and Susono [many live-steam trains of all sizes, thanks to my good friend Zubi], Port Orford [bless your kind hearts, Richard and Helen] and Portland [more blesses, Larry]. Made tentative inroads into a restoration plan for the 1929 Point St Charles van down at the museum in Brghton [Hi there, Horace and Ralph]. Missed seeing Fred in Nepean as we had to go back to UK early as my poor old mom fell off her perch…still not recovered, and never will.

Did more a lot of work here in UK. Co-wrote a paper on the uses of satellite imagery for evaluation of earthquake damage for some folks a lot cleverer than me, and got to do a lot of shooting too in my spare time [hah].

THIS year will be the year we go where we want, within reason, that is, and depending on a whole lot of other factors, but here are the plans so far…

Early spring - Irish Republic and southern Sweden doing family history.

Late spring in Oregon - this time flying into Chicago and taking the Empire Builder in each direction - ending up in either Newport or Depoe Bay area, and our vacation hutch at Cannon Beach.

July - back in Tokyo working

August/September - Ontario with family

Fall - probably back in Oregon for a few weeks - same place as before, but including Wheeler/Garibaldi and Tillamook this time.

Early december - Tokyo working

Mid-late December and New Year - Vancouver Island - Christmas in Victoria - New Year in Cannon Beach hutch!!!

BTW, I ‘retired’ from the Army in late 2000…

Happy New Year to ALL!!!
