Happy Groundhog Day

As we get another foot of snow in the northeast, Punxsutawney Phil predicts yet another 6 weeks of winter.

Its hard to believe when I look outdoors at all the snow on the ground that in less then 8 weeks we have our first major ops session of 2015.

Oh well perfect day to build a few more bents for the railroads Tuolumne River bridge.

Stan

Snow when will it stop???

6 more weeks Yell

Snowing again like crazy today here in maine! and cold too! I did my normal dog walk on snowshoes again today…with the poor pooch following in my tracks!

Sean,

I feel for you. Here in Florida we have only three seasons…January, February and SUMMER! Cool

Went for a walk in the park, didn’t see a marmot anywhere. But the good news … fresh snow to cover the dirty stuff that had its day.

That varmint sent the snow to East PA - Northeast to be exact!

*I just corrected varmint spelling, now have to go out and shovel some more snow! PAZ ops down!

Yep, them thar groundy-hogs is laughing at us dumb nekkid apes what don’t have the sense to sleep through the cold months.

This one has definitely surpassed the Epic Blizzard from last week with much less hype. The hotel and church at Wall are no longer visible. Thankfully all residents evacuated last week…

And the valley is full of snow under the bridge at Indian Hill…

At Indian Hill Junction the Watch Tower is barely visible and the abandoned station is just a bump in the snow…

Crews have abandoned the train shed at Pine Summit…

And Deep Cut has all but disappeared under the snow…

This post is an experiment in using very large photos. These photos are 1620x1080 pixels, but the new software is automatically resizing them to fit in under 720 pixels wide. The full size photo can be seen if your browser supports the View Image function (In Forefox, in the right click menu).

I probably would not use photos this big again as writing the post is pretty difficult because the editor displays the pictures full size.

That’s good to know about the picture size. Thanks.

Well, right now the pictures are not displayed in line. When I right click I get an option to view in another tab but it just says

I’m thinking maybe the weather has killed the server?

Heh…and NOW that I have posted that they all show up. Impatient me, no doubt.

Another foot and still falling. There’s no indication I have a railroad out there at all, unless you know the undulations of the ground are actually benchwork and bridges.

Was that my pictures? My host used to barf all the time serving pictures. It has been better the last few years, but may have had an issue today. Those are REALLY big pictures and even though they are re-sized by LSC, the file size of 240-360K each compared to my normal 800 pixel JPeg files at 100K or less.

We got about 10 inches or so with a layer of ice in the middle. I spent 3.5 hours digging out our cars tonight. It would have been 2.5 if I hadn’t decided to try out the 4WD and go down the un-shoveled part of the driveway to turn around. No problem going down, but trying to go back up in 4WD Low with all hubs locked all it would do is spin (I have all-season touring tires). Ended up having to dig all around the car and chop through the packed snow to get to blacktop and give myself a couple of feet to get started up the hill.
