Large Scale Central

Hamlet,NC station

Spent the day Railfanning in Hamlet, NC. Here is a google view of the Diamond at Hamlet.

Here is the restored station. At one time 21 passenger trains a day stopped here. The station was built in 1900 and moved across the tracks and restored in 2004. The Depot is open Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Riley Wilson from the Depot saw us taking pictures and gave us a personal tour of the Depot, even though it was Friday and not open. Riley started working for Seaboard in 1947. Worked at the Hamlet yard until he retired. Now 81 years old and taking the time to show us around.

Here is a picture from the upstairs Retunda showing the former Depot location across the tracks.

Inside the lobby.

Upstairs.

A photo of the Depot in it’s original location. That’s a Hotel behind the depot.

They have nice HO layout in the basement modeling Hamlet and the yard in it’s heyday. Ralph

Beautiful depot, inside & out. Looks like you had a fun day.

Great looking depot.

I had a great day. A beautiful depot for sure. Lots of train action through the Diamond. Worth the visit if you are in the area. Ralph

That’s awesome!!!
Thanks for sharing Ralph. I especially like the interior.

I thought “Hamlet” was the sequel to “Babe”?

Seriously, awesome depot! Thanks for posting the pics.

Ray, Hamlet is the prequel to “Richard III.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Neat looking depot.

Traveling accross southern GA, there’s an old ROW running from Tifton to Waycross. I’m not sure what RR it was but going through some of the small towns down there, most of the old stations have been preserved and serve as a centerpiece to the towns.
