Large Scale Central

Hale & Norcross Dump Trestles

Cliff, I don’t know what else to say. All your preliminary attention to the details, choice of materials and perseverance throughout the build has received accolades from every corner, and all of them well earned. I am definitely watching and learning as you go. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Yes, I’m learning as well…but I think my learning is more along the lines of “I’ll NEVER be able to do THAT!” (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Quite often, if you think you can, or you think you can not, you are right.

Too true. I guess I’m really doubting I’ll ever get a laser cutter…but one never knows!

Is that all? I can’t even find the Motivation for my simple jobs!

Hahahaha! Thanks again guys for going through all this with me, it sure keeps me on my toes, and to make sure I follow through!

Hollywood, thanks brother! Very generous of you!

Rooster… anal retention pond, that’s quite the gem, I’m gonna use it somehow at work… Believe me, it would be fitting on several levels…

David M, profound indeed.

John and Bruce, thanks! You, like many here, are actual craftsmen. However, all I’m doing is leveraging my CAD skills to semi-automate the build (since I lack many skills you and others here have).

Long ways to go on this, thanks for your continued interest friends!

PS, the bents are done, and I’ve been doing some test fitting.

PSS, Bruce, a few months ago, Rooster shamed me into using real wood for the trestle. I told my wife about it, and she jumped on the band wagon. Sheesh! So, ok, ok, real wood trestle. It took a couple months of redesign last fall, and you’re seeing the results. Massive PITA. But on the bright side, my wife got me a decent pin nailer for Christmas, I had to get a Proxxon table saw at ECLSTS, woo hoo! And this weekend I’m learning how to use those tools, so it’s all good.

Last summer I rebuilt the fish pond at my sisters, it’s been devoid of fish ever since the accident that necessitated the rebuild… I have been calling it the fishless pond, but perhaps an; Anal Retention Pond, will motivate a new population!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Yea, I have that issue too. But I have been trying to kick myself and get moving a bit more lately, and I can almost see my workbench again. Yea, its collected a load of “stuff”.

A population of what? Crappies?

Did she also get you some of these…

Image result for fabric bandages

Nope Sean, she didn’t. I have a box handy though. And some pliers to get the pin out. Oh, and CA cement…

Yesterday was misc stuff, like cutting the wood (yes, wood, Bruce) retaining wall beams, and doing a bunch of detail painting and more weathering.

After a couple more hours probably on the retaining wall, I think I’ll be about ready to start the main trestle beams. That’ll have to wait till Saturday though, I’ll be on work travel till then.

Very impressive Cliff. Keep that Proxxon going!

Thanks Bruce, and yeah, it’ll be mainly Proxxon work for quite a while. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

I did have a problem with the Proxxon fence, it was missing a part (probably a washer and snap ring, not quite sure) and wouldn’t clamp down properly. I just heard back from their customer service, and they’re sending a whole new fence assembly, so that’s cool.

To recap on what’s next on this project, God willing and the creek don’t rise:

  • Trestle deck (beams / bridge / planking / railing / track rails)
  • Animation (servo & door installation / main board / electrical assembly / programming / final wiring)
  • Site install (1: main structure in June / 2: dump & trestle module in… September?)

And the ore wagon to complete the scene… but maybe not this year though, I’ll probably do a swan dive into the ARP deep end on that one. Doing some research this week though.

And, the historical presentation on the dump in October, which I’m pecking away at… That’s a whole different gig, but it will involve the story of this model build. Hmmm… not quite sure how said yes to all that, but it’ll be an adventure.

With pictures and diagrams?

Those that have used Proxxon without a fence have shown signs of lost fingers and toes. Severe headaches after the lost of those digits.Vomiting and diarrhea have also been reported while using Proxxon without a fence however only after loss of digits. In rare cases after the use of Proxxon without a fence suicidal thoughts have occurred. Please consult a priest if you have resurrection lasting more than 4 hours after using Proxxon without a fence.

Uh oh; the creek is rising! (But, there does seem to be a paddle store nearby, so all is not lost! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

Um, yea. Funny, I still gots all my fingers and toes. I don’t think of suicide as much as I used to think of… But I didn’t know where to hide the bodies?
