Large Scale Central

Hale & Norcross Dump Trestles

I used to see buildings try to look this good in museums …

Cliff you are a Doppelganger with my brother in law!

He’s a genius too.

Incredible! I have to agree with Bruce on not being able to appreciate H&N without seeing it up close and personal. This shot gives an idea of it’s size but really can’t capture the impact it must have on the pike. Great looking layout also Cliff. I would like to get there to see this in person someday.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Bruce, what a great photo spread and captions! Thank you SO MUCH for doing that, and all your kind words! Linda and I had a great time with you, Jean, Jerry and Jane, and we both learned a lot from all of you. Fun afternoon and evening.

Thanks very much Jim and I hope you can come by sometime, should your travels bring you to the Baltimore area.

John, I’m no genius, but thanks, haha! And I’m glad you like how it looks out there.

Hey Hollywood, I’ve sure appreciated your support and interest through all this, thanks! And if you’re ever in the neighborhood, please give me a shout. Same to Rooster and Ken and others who’ve mentioned they’d like to swing by sometime.

Jerry took some cool aerial video, so stay tuned for that.

Here is a quick vid before I go for my father’s day lunch with Jane and Michelle

Gonna re-post this since I believe Jerry posted it under HTTP cause I can see it there but not under HTTPS

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING CLIFF!!!

Seeing that outside in the setting it “clearly” appears to me that you have captured the entire essence of the H&N! Outstanding work and detail!!!

Bruce and Jerry thank you for the documentation!

I will second what Rooster just said, (and that’s probably a first…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif))

I think that’s what so impressive - it IS museum quality, yet it’s going to stay outside - and it sure looks like it will hold up well.

Jerry, Rooster, Ken, Bruce, thanks so much!

I’d elaborate on my thanks, but I pushed it on the magic-sculpt and ran out of time. Leaving for FD sushi dinner now, and I can’t get the MS off my nails at all. I’m thinking of explaining to the waitress, “Don’t worry, from most of the articles I’ve seen on the Internet, it’s not contagious.”

More tomorrow evening, and thanks again my friends,

Nice one.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Pretty smart cookie then…

I’ve been with you from the beginning and I’ve watched you grow and take on all the learning with confident successes.

Amen!

the video was the eye-opener.

all these months and all these pics - i knew it was big.

but from the air seeing and comparing it with the other “normal size” buildings, it is huge!

this little heap of blueish acrilic pieces became - to cite one Miss Poppins - just Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Cliff

Wow that is a very impressive structure, it has been fun following you for the last couple years. It has been a real pleasure to see your setting of the great structure.

Thanks for sharing this great, I was about to say moment, but more like thanks for sharing your day with us.

Dennis

One other thing I failed to mention. Cliff appears to keep a VERY neat workshop. I have never seen any work area so tidy and organized! It’s almost as if he thinks Linda will say - “Hey, let’s have dinner down in your workshop tonight” - it’s THAT clean.

You can barely see it in some of my pictures.

Silly me, I was focusing on his creation when I took this, but you can sort of see his work desk just beyond the structure - with a bright light illuminating the work area.

We didn’t get to put the trestle out yet, but it is equally impressive - and I’m sure it will look awesome when placed out next to the mine.

Thanks again my friends. Whenever I post, it feels like you’re all right there in the shop, giving advice, encouragement and great company.

Bruce, it’s not always that clean… but thanks!! And I just got the Behr flat exterior latex samples, 5 colors, 7oz each – and only $2.94 per! That’s a steal, good call!

And Dennis, I’m all in with the Magic Sculpt now, so thanks for showing the way (again)!

Rooster, John, Korm, thanks for all your insights and humor along the way on this project.

Jerry, thanks again for that video, I love it. Also, I found the Quikrete concrete bonding adhesive at HD today, thanks for the tip. Guys, Jer recommended this for securing the “rocks” better to the MS. It’s exterior, paintable, and thin enough to not loose the rockwork detail (and to be sprayed on).

Here’s Jerry and Bruce taking the baby for a walk:

And a track-level shot,

I worked on the terrain all day yesterday. Here’s some wet Magic Sculpt, ready for pressing rocks in.

About 95% is done…

But I ran out of MS and foam for rocks, with only this much left:

Had to grind up a sample of the foam to go with the last of the MS. Unfortunately, the sample was pink… but, it’ll all be painted, and more regular foam is on its way. Still, I sort of cringe when I see it…

Also just ordered another MS batch. I didn’t anticipate 15lbs of it here; but at least I’ll only have to park this thing once (it ain’t coming back in). I’m sure looking forward to having my work table back, after over a year! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Ok the guy in Cliff’s picture is the real Bruce that I know! The man in my picture was the guy claiming to be Bruce that showed up at Ken’s and just started drinking. I still think he was a local transient look alike.

Good stuff guys!!

OH BTW…CLIFF …YOU MUST TAKE B&W pics of the model for comparison. See if you can get some of the same angles as the prototype pics originally posted …PLEASE and THANK YOU !

I want B&W pics!

HAHAhaHA!

But yeah, I really want to, Rooster. The dump will be another 2 months (and the trestle is such a key feature in the old photos), and model will looked laterally squished by comparison, but I’ve got to do that. It will be an important slide in my presentation… cringe… gotta get to it… but yes!! And thanks for the B&W thought, that would be cool. Maybe a sepia tone in Photoshop.

Thanks Brutha Roostah
