Hail!

I was working on the GRR, nice, sunny 80 degree day. In just minutes a storm blew in with marble size hail and wind. The hail went on and off for about 30 minutes, with nice doses of sideways rain in between the hail showers. This is how my digital camera recorded the hail. The camera lens was clean.

The water in the driveway is moving rather rapidly. The new ditch prevented a bunch of repair work. Leaves restricted several of the pipes, but not enough to do any harm. I still need to do some cosmetic work on the culverts and abutments. I’m just happy the drainage was in place.

No dirt or water washed over the passing tracks after I made the drainage improvements. The dirt is from a previous storm. I was working on putting new ballast in this area when the storm hit. Ralph

Good Grief!!

Wow.

Nice to see your drainage worked

Wow! That’s positively biblical!

Hail seizer !!

At least it’s not hailing taxicabs!

Yup, next comes the plague of frogs ...

What happened to the more friendly “Cats and Dogs”…?

About eight or ten years ago we had hail like that here in Virginia. It was really loud inside. Later I went out to assess the damage. My eagle eye didn’t see much except for the attic vent. Well, I didn’t really feel like doing that myself so I called my insurance agent.

They came out and assessed the damage. We ended up with a new roof and new siding. And a new vent. It turns out that most of the neighborhood got new siding, so it really spruced up the place.

Hmmm! Natural urban renewal?

Semi-natural…

The Sunny View Lines resumed operations today. Operations had halted after Fay dropped 12 inches of rain. The recent hail storm further delayed repairs. Here we have the first train, a special REA hotshot run pulling Coopers Gap. It was nice to see a train running again on The Sunny View Line. Ralph

Good to see I wasn’t the only one out playing in the yard on such a nice day.

Ken,
Nice picture, and yes, nice day.
I think you just don’t want to get down on your belly to take the “ground level” shot
Ralph

The problem is that the drive way and the cars would be in the background if I did that here. This way I keep all that clutter out of the pic…and besides, I f I got down there, I may not get up…
