We experienced a major hail storm here , the worse hail storm I had ever experienced , and our home and both cars suffered major damage . All of the trees and plants were shreaded . And overhead electric opertions will cease for the Darlington Railway . There are just too many busted poles and overhead damage that I can overcome at this time , or care to do , I’m not getting any younger . Steam and diesel motive power will be returned to operation on the DR . The Aristo buildings suffered no damage that I have seen , tuff stuff .
Sorry to hear about the damage. Maybe Aristo needs to build full size houses?
Man, that’s a major bummer,
Oh wow that’s tough news, I don’t even know if you can find those catenary poles anymore. Maybe wood replacements?
What Ken said. I always admired your working centenary. When removing it, preserve what isn’t a total loss and someday maybe you will get the motivation to build it again.
Yes maybe “someday” , because I have not lost my interest in electrics .
Notice all of the dead leaves , it looks like fall here with all of the dead leaves everywhere , and it was the begining of August .
Dennis,
I’m sorry that happened. That looks pretty bad. Always enjoyed your railroad and it was my example of working overhead electrics. Have you talked to FEMA, yet?
I have 2 sets of catenary that i can be persuaded into selling
Dennis, My condolances on your loss of your electric railroad… Was a joy to visit & see…
Thanks guys , and Mark I appreciate the offer , but will pass for now .
Come on now , running steam and diesel motive power isn’t that bad is it . :- )
It is difficult as we get older. I can’t keep up with the weeds!
Your layout looks like the railline just down the street. The PRR went from electric to diesel, and all they did was cut the wires and leave all the poles. That could be your back story.
Will be glad to take some pix and send them if you want.
Lou
That would be intersting to see , if and when you have the time , thanks .
Hail is no fun. Its shame what it did to your RR. Good excuse to get the steam out again.
That’s a big bummer, and I can relate. Last October 30th’s Snowmageddon caused a bunch of tree damage to the RR that I’m only just now finally finished recovering from. But, you do recover from it!
Darlington Railway has resumed operations with a used Baldwin 2-4-2T , re painted , and a used combine to provide service simce the electric operations ceased recently . Repairs are still ongoing and some changes to be made .
Nice to see you’re up & running again
Ralph
Sorry to hear of the damage to your RR, not to mention the house and cars. I’ve always enjoyed the photos of your layout.
