Hey Y’all; Had the Big Hauler 4-6-0 pilot truck breakage thing on PRR while working on lights. Had known for a while there were cracks in what amounts to “sideframes”. While working on loco it became apparent that pivot post had broken off. Okay, what to do? Not cash on hand, or in bank, to order replacement. Well, don’t know who the daddy is, but necessity is the mother of invention and I needed to go run this baby at Mike’s Monday. Alright, umm, hey, how long/short is the mounting screw? Is there enough room to run a screw up from the bottom? Turned out that would work. Had a couple of those long black Bachmann “mystery thread” screws floating around loose from something HO which had been dismantled for either Gn15 or On30 kitbash. Picked a right looking bit to use pin vise to drill pilot hole up from bottom of post. Couple of washers, sheet styrene cut out washer to keep metal washers from shorting electrical pickups. Back in business! While at it, lengthened wires and added some kind of micro plug from a selection a fellow had given me 4 or 5 years ago. As plug is buried in loco guts, brushed over it with Liquid Electrical Tape to hopefully give it more resistance to being loosened by vibration. Didn’t think to get picture while in-progress, sorry. Plastic part of truck frame had broken into three pieces, post, and fore and aft parts. Also visible are a couple drapery weights added over each axle. Might add one more to each stack. As an added bonus, screw can be backed out 1/4 to 1/2 turn to allow truck to rock a bit.
cat hair is an occupational hazard on floor at this house, oh well, a little loose cat hair hasn’t stopped anything yet. the hair still attached to a nine pound cat, however, has later, Forrest
