Gutted a perfectly good loco

Well guys, today I gutted a nice MTH Gs-4, and prepped it for AW and Px P5. The single motor runs very smooth now with 12 Volts pure battery DC. This thing was a huge power hog back when it was track-powered. The mars light (actually a blinking LED) and the headlight will stay. Everything else, smoke, dcc sound, etc, gone! The nice big tender will easily house the AW, P5, and a nice big set of batteries. Pre-gutting

Quite appropriate that you are gutting a turkey the day before thanksgiving

So are you going to be running both 1:32 and 1:20 on the new layout?

Jon,
Naw, I’m doin’ it for a friend.
The P5 “Daylight” is awesome!
It sounds a million times better than the MTH Factory sound. I’ve seen and heard the real Daylight and you can’t tell the difference.
Should easily get 3 hours of run time out of the bat pack.

I’ve always preferred the sound of the Phoenix systems. You get what you pay for. Some people can’t hear the difference, but I can. I have a 2K2 board in a trail car with big speakers - you’ve probably seen the “Cheesy Sound Car” as I’ve posted it a bunch of times - When I load up the Alco sound and turn it up loud with the loco just idling if you close your eyes you’d swear it was a real RS-3.
