Ground Throws

I’d like to look into ground throws for my LGB and Piko Turnouts. These would need to be able to stand up to outdoor conditions.

Check out Tenmille Ground Throws, I’ve had great luck with them outside.

X2 on the Tenmile, easy to install and adjust, reasonably priced.

Would anyone know what the throw distance is for

Barrel bolts?

The Barrel Bolt idea is a simple solution. I like simple. And cheap too.

They’re not all that cheap, and you have to have a drill press, too, unless there is something I’m overlooking.

You’re right about the not so cheap. and you’re right about needing a lathe or drill press. But I cam pick them up at HD or Lowes and have them built and installed in the same day, without having to keep them in stock.

We used barrel bolt switch throws on our club railway. They were rugged and easy to assemble, although a little drilling was required for the self-taping screw.

But when Nelson Yard and Glen Hammond were rebuilt, we realized that the barrel bolt was not needed. We just used the L bracket that had been used previously to alter the angle of the throw.

Last summer it was my job to remove all the barrel bolt throws and install the new L bracket ones. These new throws are less expensive, easier to install, and provide positive feedback because there is no rusty spring.
