Just came back from Greenberg’s Show in Wilmington, MA. Very little G scale for sale. A few pieces here and there, but very scant showing. Tons of great Lionel, Am. Flyer , HO and N. Wonder why so little G?
HI John
Over the years and many average train shows later I have found large scale to be hit or miss. I think it has to do with the size and the cost of the equipment. A dealer can carry alot more say O or HO in his truck than G and sell alot more of the smaller scales. Say 10 HO cars to one G.
When I started I would buy anything that was a good price but now I’m alot more selective and it is impossible for a dealer to carry it all.
Also I believe that alot more folks are into the smaller scales due to space constrictions be it indoor or out. Alot of folks don’t want to deal with being outside in the elements and it is tough for most to have a decent size layout inside.
I do still enjoy going to shows even though I might not find any G scale. It is always nice to see the modules and enthusiastic train NUTZ that are even more fanatical than I am. LOL
Question is did you Did you buy anything?
Todd
Hi Todd,
No, I didn’t buy anything. However, I still have my early 1960’s American Flyer trains and there were some beautiful pieces for sale. The really nice stuff was up there with G scale. I also was intrigued by really neat N scale layouts. What was most impressive was how much you can cram into a small area. The Kato sets on display/ running were quite nice and reasonable when you compare to G.
One table had a box of used LGB 4’ radius track, but the smallest I will use is 5’.
There appears to be a large show in Marlborough / Dec.1st weekend…hmmm tempting. I wonder if there will be any G there?
John,
I was at this show as well - we must have passed each other at some point. The Greenberg shows have become progressively less railroad oriented over the years - there was far more automobile models and dolls/toys than in recent years. I think this may be my last year going to one of them.
Never fear, though, the Big E show is not that far away.
Brian
John, I’ve never seen at lot of large scale at the Gberg show in Wilmington. Don’t bother going anymore… The Big E like Brian said…which is Ok for large scale…But then there is the ECLSTS
Hi John
Yeah N scale is amazing how much you cna fit into a small area like a coffee table.
If memory serves me the Marlborough show has a large white elephant table that had G the 2 times I went to it.
I’m looking forward to he BIG E show there is always alot tp see in all scales. This will be 6th year and I have always found goodies but one year I remember it was a bit disapointing with the G scale for sale. USAT always has a big booth with deals to be had.
I say if you are in the area do check out the Marlborough show. Maybe see you at Big E
One of my friends went to the Greenberg show and came back with some great G Gauge buys. We were both at the Cheshire High School Show (In Connecticut) as the CCTGG was there. Amato’s had some BAchmann G including the new shorty starter sets but the drawing held there was mainly G gauge donated items.
The Marlborough show will be even more disappointing for G items but Bachman is usually there.
The Amherst Show ususally has G froma couple of dealers . Last year there was a dealer selling nothing but LGB items on Saturday only. There were some great prices there. As always drop by the Mohegan & Pequot G gauge layout and say hello. Always want to see other G gaugers and we might know where there are some good buys at the show. Do not e surprised if Aristo is selling at the show.
Note: If anyone is looking for Accucraft 1:20.3 items I have a friend who is looking to sell his collection.
