Large Scale Central

Grand Centrqal Terminal's sub, sub... sub basement

I’ve known since I was a kid that there were Nazi saboteurs, but I did not know what their target was. This is interesting stuff.

Steve,

Seen that on tv last year, very interesting.

Don

Most interesting, Steve. Thank you. Paul A

Steve I saw a smaller rotary converter in Plano one time. interesting device. I would have thought, with the limitations of transmitting DC over long distances, that there would have been several of those power stations all along the north east lines.

That’s what I was thinking, but perhaps those feed only the terminal.

The video says that it fed thousands of miles… it clearly did not go very far from the main terminal, because of the inability to transform DC in those days. I would be surprised if they could feed more than 20 miles away.

Greg

I think what the narrator was supposed to say was that the loss of power at GC would have affected 1000s of miles of railroad in the backup created.

That is very interesting stuff. I saw a show about this a while back.
It was interesting that they let the saboteurs down to the basement, caught them, questioned them then hung them. Times have changed.

Todd,

The saboteurs never got to the basement. They were caught on the beach by the Coast Guard.

Actually, you’re both half right.
