Grand Canyon Railway on Saturday

Friday is my wife’s and my 15th wedding anniversary. We’re riding the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon and back on Saturday to celebrate. It is Steam Saturday, so we’ll be pulled by a 2-8-2 Mikado instead of a diesel. Photos and probably video after we get back.

Sounds great, Daniel. I took the family on that route some 25 years ago… can’t believe it was that long. Awesome ride.

We rode to the North Pole on that line a couple of times! Have fun!

I’m jealous. Congrats and happy anniversary

Some of the Locomotives seen on Saturday. I don’t know what all of them are.

The 2-8-2 that headed up the train.

The F40FH That followed. These normally pull the trains, except for the first Saturday of each month and certain holidays. It is an F40PH that has modified gearing.

A three-truck shay on display at the Williams depot…

An interesting little locomotive made to run up and down Pikes Peak

On display at the Grand Canyon depot

Passed this one on the way into the Williams depot (EMD SW7?)

This one, too (Alco S2?)

This one, too (GE E60?)

The theory is those are all going to be restored for the Museum that is supposed to open next year?

The car we rode in for the trip.

Fun day of rail fanning. That little “Pikes Peak” loco is interesting.

I always recommend the adults only observation bar/lounge car. Its a bit more $ but worth it. looking forward to doing it again next time I’m in the area.
