Wondering what other feature to build for my RR the choice was a grain elevator. These iconic structures, so much a part of North America, seemed an ideal choice. I based it on the simpler types that were built and decided the CP red rather than the tin sided version would look best. It is built of 1¼" thickness timber decking and is quite heavy. I doubt if winds will affect it. It measures 12" square plus the lean to reception building and is 40" high. It is not in its permanent location right now and needs more work to complete it, such as decals, delivery pipes and staging for the operator. An operators office and walkway to the elevator is still to be built.

Good project. What did you use for siding? I could run it vertically and use it on my ore processing mill.

Doug. I presume you mean the sides of the elevator rather than track. The whole thing is made from 1¼" timber decking (use for patios, walkways in the UK as it may well be in the States). Some planks have different sized grooved treads on them but this has very narrow grooves which is the nearest thing I have seen to weather boarding as used in real elevators. I felt it would stand up to winter wind and rain far better than thin ‘planking’ type materials.

Incidentally the same stuff makes a good storage road in a train shed! And yes, I guess it would work either way, horizontally, as in my case, or vertically for you. The width of the plank is just over 5½" and can be bought (here in the UK) in differing lengths from 2.6m to 5m.

The elevator, office and walkway are now completed. The only remaining work is the two ramps for the farm delivery vehicles to gain access to the elevator and the delivery pipes to the waiting railroad cars. I am awaiting seeing the right thing for the pipes.

The pics in my previous post are in fact NEW ones which I took today with my cell 'phone. I don’t know how but the original pics disappeared and two of four new ones appeared in their place. Not sure where to two other new ones went but the are in the Freight Shed section I believe.

Steve my suggestion is dual citizenship. That way we could enjoy the best and avoid the worst of both Countries. lol
