USA’s GP-9 what Ka-dee are people using on this engine?
I know it’s old but maybe there has been new idea’s .
Please note the edit on coupler number. Memory failed. It happens.
I used the 789 785. A more realistic coupler is the 907. Use the new large offset coupler if you want the more realistic look. Its number is #903.
It mounts right to the post that USAT provided for theirs. Remember to save and reuse their screw to avoid problems.
I even put that little metal spring thing back on to center the coupler. Not sure it works, but its there, and there is no reason at this point to remove it.
This is how I do the Geeps using the typical large off-set Kadee that is used on almost everything. Note that I use a length of Plastruct to fill the gap in the coupler to provide a smooth surface to pivot around and extend its length to engage the “pin” so that the coupler self-centers.
The large offset couplers don’t work great, they deflect under load, and can cause couplers to ride over each other.
I’d strive to find a way to mount a centerset coupler, all my USAT locos will be treated to this, since they will pull sizeable trains on grades.
Since it is already body mounted, you can just cut the pocket upwards.
