Anyone have a extended cab that they would be willing to trade or sell? I have the short cab currently and am looking for a long cab. See the Gp30 thread for more detail.

Craig,
I dont know who told you USA Trains made 2 different GP-30 cabs but they didnt. I was on a conference call with Mike this AM and he confirmed
only one stye of cab, Maybe some one modified the one you pictured on the other web site.
Nick
Humm That’s interesting because the modeler I talked too that told me the about it, he had two cabs of which one was of each… I have the shorter style, and I’ve talked to a couple of different people who have the extended cab on their factory painted model! So yes USA does make a extended cab. GN = long cab D&RG = short cab MILW = long cab So… they do make it. Stock long cab that has been repainted

It could be that USA first came out with the shorter cab, and than midway through the product they switched? So ‘technically’ they only offer 1 style, but clearly from the pictures it’s two different styles. And in neither one of those pictures has the cab been modified (other than paint).
Hmmmmmm Well based on all the pictures of the locos you mentioned on USAT web page and Mike saying only one cab made.
I for one would like to see a 'factory painted long cab myself. I cant see USA making a different cab for this model, but I suppose anything
is possible but Mike is the man at USA Trains so I tend to believe him till proven otherwise.
I’ll ask on the other site for someone to take a picture of an untouched cab… It could be that Mike doesn’t know. It’s only on the fireman’s side, so the pictures on the USA website don’t do much good as they only show the engineers side.
Do you believe me now Nick?

Craig if you e=mail me i’ll send you a pick of my cp long cab.
Craig if you go to USA trains web and bring up the GP30 USA uses a video from lsol.com it is a C&O with short cab.
No reason to get cocky, I tend to believe USA when they say stuff so now you will need to get USA to confirm your picture not me.
Still have a hard time believing they changed cabs and didn’t have any record of it. Im still not a believer but we will see what they
say now or if you can actually get what you pictured.

Nicholas Savatgy said:What more is to confirm? One is a D&RG model, the other is a MILW model. Both come from USA and both had two different cab styles. Nothing more needs to be explained. You didn't believe me when I told you first, so I provided more evidence and you still don't believe me. It doesn't really matter if USA acknowledges that they made two different styles or not. They clearly did as evidenced with my picture. So back to my original post... Anyone willing to trade cabs with me?

Well, the pictures on the USAT site all show short cabs, but of course those pictures have been there forever.
So maybe they added the long cabs later.
The Milwaukee shown on the site looks very much like the short cab.
You might want to track down EMDTRainMan on his Yahoo forum and ask the question, maybe you can find which ones had the longer cab, might make it easier to find.
Also, try Mike in parts at USAT… he might have one…
Greg
Greg,
The pictures on the USA site only show the engineers side. It’s only the fireman’s side that is longer by 10". The cab roof is the same design as well between the 2 different styles.
So unless you see a picture of the fireman’s side you would never know. It’s a mute point now as I figure I don’t have the funds to buy another cab right now (it sucks being a poor grad student!). So I’m off to cut the one I have apart, and move it back 10". But yes if I was to buy a new cab I would call Mike.
A better and easier way to tell would be to count the number of handrail stanchions. If you have 9 on the fireman’s side you have the short cab. If you have 8, it’s the longer version. AGAIN it is ONLY ON the FIREMAN’S SIDE.
Craig
got it… still I’d call USAT… you might be surprised.
