Got my new Steam in the Garden Magazine!

New issue of Steam in the Garden arrived here yesterday. Pretty impressive debut by the new group running it. Looks like it will be a winner.

When you’ve finished with it you can send it with a food-aid package to your poor relatives in Yoorup. Diesel has just hit $10 a gallon here…

Tac,

Is that an imperial gallon, or a US gallon?

We ‘live’ [if that’s the right word] in the UK, so it’s an ImpGn. Filling up our diesel M-B station wagon last monday cost me $149.88. :frowning:

Maybe it’s time to bring back the Stanley Steamer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yikes!!!.. so that’s about $8 for a US gallon. We did get to $5/US gallon a couple of years ago. Filling my trucks and chipper set us back $500 each visit and we usually went in at about 50% full.

Wow I complain about $3.50 per gallon but then again that is US gallon not imperial gallon.
I would have to go to the bicycle if it reached that here.

It will…just wait and see…meanwhile, purchase that bicycle, while you can afford one; their prices will start going up very soon.

Really gets me on the news, they have all these things about saving gas/etc. We have plenty of oil, but Obama won’t let them drill. Just an annoucement of drilling would drop oil prices. Sure, keep developing alternatives, but nothing so far would do me any good out here in the countryside in Nebraska. People back east think mass transit is all over the nation, we have dirt roads out here guys!

Semper Paratus, Jerry. The politicians, lawyers, egghead professors and other egomaniacs will never understand, but still do their best to try to control us. As you quote, “Life is too short to take seriously”.

Diesel just hit $11.18 here…

I HAVE a bicycle already, but it’s hard to ride it sixty miles each way carrying a live steamer…

They do make bicycle trailers, and 60 miles is just a 4-5 hour ride.

As Drill Instructor Sgt Breen said, “It’s mind over matter. I don’t mind, and you don’t matter.” :stuck_out_tongue:

I have 2 bicycles a normal bike and an electric bike with solar charger. The electric will do 18 mph.

Here in UK you would be better off with a hydro-electric-powered bike than a solar one…

Certainly, if you could distil misery into a worthwhile fuel the entire country could be self-sufficient.

Tac;
If I cold do that magic act, I would do it for both our countries.
But that’s more magic than any one person can come up with.

Hummmmmmmm thought this was about steam in the garden and not gas on the road. Later RJD

I just got the newest issue yesterday. Has an article by me about the live steamers at Marty’s last year.
Bill Allen’s article on scratch building a live steam Garratt, several other steamups were covered. Converting a SR&RL to a sugar plantation loco. Review of Wee Be’s new safety valve. MANY ads by live steam suppliers.

Jerry,
I got my issue too but have not taken the time to get it out of the packaging yet. There have been other priorities so far.

Chas

Huh? What could possibly be more important than perusing the latest SiTG?

Now if the new owners would consider making it available on-line, I’d prolly stump up the $$$$$$ [hint hint.
