Come on, BBQ and Brew, trains and Geese on a beautiful Friday evening in the Rockies…it doesn’t get much better then this. Night shoot started at dusk… it’s 12:30 at night, and I haven’t had time to do any special corrections on these, they are what they are for now.

Thanks for the pictures, Dave.
Indeed, a very special event
Ralph

Great pics!

If you’ve got time, I’d love to see more of the ladder area of #7
Did you measure the wooden parts of the water tank?

In any case, I am sure you are having fun.

WOW! Thanks for all the amazing pics… I didn’t realize there were so many Geese… You’re a good photographer. That sunset shot is a thing of special beauty, and that shot of the headlights puts me right there where you were standing…

Wow!!!

Wow. I really like that last nighttime shot.

I wanted to go to this, but it wasnt in the cards.

I believe it was No. 5 that I rode, a half a century ago! Now to find the pictures!

Paul

Great pictures Dave! Thanks for posting for those of us who can’t be there for this once in a lifetime event.

Nice pics Dave. Have a great time

I really like this one, one that I will have to do some post processing on. Maybe it something about the water tank?

And my thrill of the day… Cab ride in Goose 2, onto the turntable and parking is line.

Its Late (after 10pm) I’m tired, and have to get some sleep, An ADDED SPECIAL SHOOT. 4:45 am at the turntable for sunrise photos. BTW Catered sit down dinner in the UP dinning car… Great food… Goose of course! I’ve shoot over 800 pics so far, Boy do I have a lot weeding to do. @ Don I got good pics for you of #7’s ladder area. Enjoy

Great photos Dave! Thank you.

Cool pics. I’m bummed that I couldn’t be there myself, but my anniversary got in the way. In an ironic twist, though, my anniversary took me to Telluride! (And it wasn’t even my idea!) While y’all were sitting in the cab of the Geese riding over track in Golden, I was sitting behind the wheel of my car, driving over the Rio Grande Southern grade between Telluride and Lizard Head Pass (continuing on to Rico, albeit not directly on the RGS grade.) I shot some video out of the sunroof; maybe we superimpose it. This is my first outing in RGS territory, and I’m surprised by how much is still standing. (Trout Creek Trestle is very picturesque.)

Fortunately, I did get over to the museum earlier this week for photos of all the Geese, except #1 which hadn’t yet arrived. Not a bad few days of narrow gauge railroading…

Later,

K

Well, my heart is eaten out!

I’ve never even dreamed of a cab ride in just one of the geese, never mind SIX!

The Yahoo RGS group also has some pics, but you must be a member to see them.

Thanks for posting these great pics.
I’m keeping copies and will be interested to see what post processing of the night shots does to the pics.

Dave,
Cab rides in all six…how are you ever gonna top that
Ralph

Yup. I’m eating my heart out too… I bet you were grinning that day, Dave! Maybe still are… Good for you!

What I find amazing is that all 7 of them are still around and running, even if the one at Knott’s couldn’t get permission to be there. Thanx for the pix, hard to believe if I hadn’t seen it…

After this weekend Dave may have a permanent smile, the muscles may atrophy in that smile.

Not such a bad thing. Must admit…I am jealous, I couldn’t make this one.

Day 3 update… Oh - Dark - Thirty. The museum staff were exceptional hosts and went way above and beyond for those of us that were fortunate enough to get one of the VIP passes. The executive director “Daniel” arranged and set up a extra photo shoot at sunup for those VIP pass holders that wanted to catch the morning light. This was a last minute thing arranged Sat. Evening, He opened the grounds at 4:45 in the AM. The vender that was selling pizza there agreed to open at 7 am and sell us “breakfast pizzas” ( big discussion amongst us as to what was to be on a "breakfast pizza), at the last min. they backed out, and Daniel bought enough bagels and cream cheese + peanut butter and jelly to feed the morning mob, and brewed up the caffeine for all, FREE. Geese by the dawns early light.

A Matched pair of the birds at dawn.

Goose beaks in the morning light.

Beak on with #4, this weeks star, they got her running this week, first time sense 1951, sixty years!

And #4 on her parade lap.

Goose #1 looking like she was back home on the RGS. She really is a small piece.

I think that a grainy B&W version of this pic could/would look quite old. And todays show stopper… The Gaggle

I’ve shown about 25 quickie picks, from over 800 + shots. I’v got a lot of editing to do over the next couple of days. I have a lot to post, and add to this about a Once in a lifetime event… WOW what a weekend! Enjoy
