Large Scale Central

Google Earth Image

I think this has been posted before, it seems familiar, but anyway.

I just happened to be browsing GE and zeroed in on my house. And lo and behold, my GR shows up pretty plainly. It never did before because the resolution was so bad. According to the date, this was taken last September. I must have be out because the truck isn’t in the drive, but the van shows up pretty clearly.

Resolution is getting better all the time. Check out the Orlando area - you can see people on the ground at WDW!

The resolution over my house has improved too. Looks like it was taken just over a year ago by the position of my boat and the color of the tarp. Even though the current shot of my house is in winter my railroad is almost entirely hidden under the trees. What isn’t blends in with the patio.

Resolution for my house is fine, but with the shadows from the trees you cant see anything in the back yard except a bit of the vegetable garden. The truck and camper are in the front yard, though.

I just noticed too, that you can see the line across the yard from the right side of the house out towards the street where they put the FIOS line in last summer…

I couldn’t see the layout but I could see the cabinet where the controllers are!

I cpuld alsp see the unpermitted structures! I wonder who else is looking.

I have the older version, this was best resolution I could muster.

I see a train! I see a train! Oh, it’s a cloud.

Good one Vic!

My layout is also hidden under the trees just @ 10 O clock above the house.Makes me cold just looking at it.

Mine was taken in July of 2011, I had started on the layout in March of that year so there isnt a lot there. But since we are sharing…

I marked where the railroad is. Mostly looks like brown ground, because I hadn’t planted anything yet.

i’ll jump in on this… You can actually see my track! It was taken about a year and a half ago. Before I started on the Mtn Div. As you can see… I live on a Small city lot. I marked the encroachment i’ve made on the city Right of Way.

The RR takes up a large percentage of available lot space, it does go all the way to the N property line, and raps around the garage to the West.

The image they have is 2 1/2 years old. The GRR runs about 3/4 of the way across the front of the house.

The resolution has improved. The last image was so poor the house looked like a shadow.

Mine only shows the first curve benchwork…must be three or four years old…nothing to see…

And?

Not the best quality way out where we live.

It’s under there somewhere

How do you copy the image from Google maps?

I did a “print screen” and re-sized in my photo editor.

On Google Earth, under “File”, there’s a “Print” option. I just save that and reopen it in Paintshop and resize it there.

There is also a “save” option to save the image.

Yea, I missed that one…

Now I see how you had a problem with your rr, Dave. That is an interesting way the city ploted your lot. Usually the city part is next to the street like your but then there is a sidewalk and then your land. Your plot doesnt really allow for much of a front yard.
