Good but cheap UK style live steamer wanted, stuff for trade

I am looking to swap a bunch of my american G scale stuff for a UK style live steam engine, no mamods however!. one of the Accucraft edrigs, or other recent offerings, an old Merlin, Pearse or Roundhouse would be fine, Either 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 would be fine. Was going to go with a wild west theme but have lost interest. Of all my american stuff I am only keeping one of my Kalamazoo 4-4-0’s and a coulple passenger cars. I have a HLW 4-4-0, Kalamazoo yellow/black 0-4-0 that is a hand built prototype, several KLW tank cars, flat car, partialy built derrick car, caboose. A bachmann DRGW stock car, red bobber caboose, and two of the real small 1:20.3 freight cars, a flat and a box car. I am planing to go 32mm gauge on the outdoor layout, and am looking for more Mamod track, just not thier engine. Thanks Mike and Michele T

Sir - why are you set on Mamod track? The choice of formation is very limited, to say the least, and although I know about ten folks who model live steam in 16mm, none of them use Mamod track. Peco is the way to go, to be honest, proven in my brother-in-law’s backyard since 1978, and still in perfect condition.

I’ll help you out any way I can from over here is you are intent on it, but…

well, it helps that I have quite a large stash of it already. Peco is nice, but quite pricey for the 32mm’r on a tight budget. Just getting a steam engine seems out of reach right now, let alone some of the nice Peco track. I agree though, peco is the way to go. But on this side of the pond, its not a common item stocked, and expensive to buy new. Second hand is impossible to find normaly over here. I fasten the fragile mamod track to thin treated wood planks and it has held up so far on my last two layouts I built. Cheers Mike

No problem Tac, now I just need to sell or swap off some stuff and get my a steamie!

as far as track needs, I need 15 pieces of both straight and curved to finish my loop. I will sell my other stuff outright. Here are some prices, all are obo and not set in stone. HLW 4-4-0, $225, 0-4-0 handbuilt prototype 125.00, any of the Kalamazoo freight cars, $20 each or two for $35. Kalamazoo passenger cars $35 each or two for $65. I also found some spare LGB track, 5 curves and 1 straight, $2.00 each and 1 unused R1 manual track switch, $40. The track switch hasnt been used outdoors, the misc track has been so the rail is weathered. I did clean and polish the rail head for running on track power. Thanks Mike

Another option for 32mm is the track from the Faller 'e’Train… if you don’t mind tight radius curves and short sections. It shows up quite often on ebay, and usually goes cheap.

but is it weather proof Mik? Never seen thier track before. The Mamod stuff being metal has done just fine outdoors as long as it has been supported, the diecast track is a bit brittle so being mounted to something secure helps. Need some nibbles or offers on my stuff incase I find an Edrig or similar for a good price. Thanks Mike

Isn’t some of the Atlas stuff reportedly outdoor compatible now? I thought I read that somewhere. The Austrian made stuff from them I had years ago was not, the UV got to it, along with a few meths fires!

I also like Accucrafts new Lawley 0-6-0 engine, a bit big but nice and chunky looking.

Mike - right now Glendale Junction, not far from us here, have a nice second-paw RH 'Katie', manual, for £495.00.

I think Gargraves makes some outdoor track now also, it’s hollow rail, so pretty cheap.

not to bad price wise Tac, thanks for the link. I found an engine I want to buy, so please, everybody, make offers on the stuff. Or if someone here is better off financialy that I am, and can help me pick up this engine, its on ebay. I hold the high bid, and hope to sell some stuff to cover it. Would love a “quiet” partner that can “front” the funds so to speak, then hold the engine for me till I can build up the funds. This is of coarse if if the bidding goes beyond my means. I know this is alot to ask. But I stumbled on exactly what I personal desire for my engine. Feel free to email me at cadetpwr at hotmail dot com if you are willing to assit me. Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it, you dont know how much. Hopefully my wife can find a job soon, that will aleviate many of our budget tightness.
