Gluing wood and styrene

I am currently working on some buildings that need wood and styrene. I have been using styrene cement and Liquid Nails, neither of which are making a satisfactory bond.
Has anyone found anything that bonds the two together?
I fear that a decent glue isn’t available in California.

Try a pin nailer (compressed air). If you don’t have compressed air, how about small screws. You might try 2 part epoxy. Me, I would use the brad nailer and short nails, also add a brace like square stock in the corners.

Doug, You might want to try caulk. They have adhesive types now. And what I’ve used on my station seems to be doing fine

The original Liquid Nails used to work pretty well but the new tree-hugger mandated stuff is fairly lame. If I’d know they were going to change it I would have stocked up on the original. :frowning:

I think I will be stocking up on styrene and switching from wood. Ray, where are you buying your styrene?
I have about four buildings that are going to get rustic porches and walkways. After that you have encouraged me to try my hand at building. They will be rustic compared to your artistry!

I don’t know where Rooster is!

Try 3M Emblem Adhesive.

Thanks Bruce, I should be able to find that one. I’m sure getting a collection of glues and haven’t stuck myself to the workbench yet! Close but not quite.

I’ve also had very good luck with Welder contact cement, but it’s a bit harder to find lately.

I just used the 3M emblem adhesive to glue some metal pieces to wood and I was very impressed with how strong the bond is.

I like the Evergreen styrene and use that most of the time. Some of it I get from the local hobby shop, and some I can only get online. (Mainly large sheets, and "large scale" siding). Getting those items online can be a problem though, because Evergreen doesn't have an online store and most dealers don't stock everything. InternetTrains.com seems to have the best selection, but last time I ordered from them it took forever to get my order.

I also use Plastruct sometimes. They have an easy to use online store and very fast shipping. Unfortunately they don’t have the siding types that Evergreen has, and some of their shapes (angles, etc) have an odd profile. But they do have some other stuff that Evergreen doesn’t have, such as domes and other types of plastic.
