Glues and adhesives

I’m working on a grain elevator, and would like to use alunimum cans for the siding, attached to plywood frame, anyone know what glue or adhesive would work best for this?

When I did my coal tipple I used DAP clear flexible sealant for my corrugated roofing (found with the caulks and such in the home depot). It comes in a regular caulk tube. It had high initial adhesion (unlike silicone) without the stringiness of GOOP. GOOP and silicone are other products you can try.

Mark,

How are you planning to corrugate the aluminum?

oven and a crimper

Gorilla glue is good too. I’ve used it to bond metal to wood but on a more heavy situation. In fact the box cab in my sig below has it’s metal roof glued to the wooden body with Gorilla glue.

I should have mentioned Liquid Nails too. Beware of the expanding qualities of Gorilla glue. It can make quite the mess and is next to impossible to remove from skin and clothes.
Also, consider annealling on a gas grill outdoors as this stuff can stink when heated up.

got an old electric oven in the barn, not to worried about the smell, i have plenty of construction adhesive around, wasn’t too sure about metal on wood, through the seasons. i’m used to glueing brick to brick & blocks gotta post my first building on here someday.

I used construction adhesive to glue my corrugated siding onto the Majestic Colliery

how long has that been outside and did you just glue it or are their brads in it also?? is the base wood?

Its currently in its second winter outside. The sub-building is 1x pine. I didnt use any brads on the siding, just the adhesive. I just looked at it yesterday (its now un-buried from the snow) and nothing has fallen off yet!

Bob, cool plow on the 45 tonner…I bet you made that huh?

and nice photos to you both!

Brian, do you have any further shots of yours?

yea thats some 080 styrene, heated near the wood stove, and wrapped around some PVC for curve… took a bit of fiddling to get right
