Glue for Delrin

Having made my other post poor for searching, I resubmit it here.

On Friday and Saturday, Andy C. and I atteneded some seminars at the Railroad Prootype Modelers Convention in Collinsville, Illinois (Greater St. Louis Metro Area). All of this is multi-scale and there was very little large scale stuff. One of the clinics was “Tools, Tips and Techniques”. The speaker was Mont Switzer. He stated there was a new glue, “Cool Chem”, that would hold Delron together. He did mention it needs to stay refrigerated and was quite expensive. Anybody know anything of this?

The other day I also picked up some flexible CA at WalMart from Loctite. Have not had a chance to try it yet.

Dr. Mike’s is supposed to work well on delrin -

I used Dr. Mike’s on Bachmann trucks which are Delrin or a Delrin-like material. It actually did stick them together where every other adhesive I tried wouldn’t join them.

Then about 6 months later, the Dr. Mike’s joints failed. The joins were on fairly small cross section components, so I’m not totally surprised.

I just got a new bottle of Dr. Mike’s to retry the joint with a larger cross section backing.

The Cool Chem Ric linked looks really interesting. Perhaps I’ll try it as I have quite a few Bachmann trucks that I’m narrowing to use on my 32mm gauge stock. All the machine work is done, but joining them back together has been a real challenge.

Jerry,
The guy doing the clinic used it to do about the same job as what you have described. Please keep us informed of your results.

Jerry,

Any update on the “Cool Chem”?
I’ve not had a reason to try it, yet.

Ric:

I haven’t gotten back to working on my 32mm re-gauge of Bachmann trucks, so haven’t purchased and tried the Cool Chem.

I did get a few of Binnie Engineering’s V-bottom skips and put Sierra Valley Enterprises’ 32mm wheelsets on them. They work great on the PECO SM32 track. I previously narrowed up a few axles of the Bachmann wheelsets (using Dr. Mikes ACC), intending to use them on my 32mm construction equipment, but the flanges won’t go through the SM32 turnouts. When I do get back to gluing the truck frames back together, I’ll use the SVE wheelsets.

I was hoping to get a 32mm gauge critter like this IP Engineering Lister Loco (link) to pull the Binnie skips over this winter, but making a living has become a priority!

Maybe later this spring.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

There was a booth at the ECLSTS last year with some feller selling glue that they “claimed” to hold delrin together. I don’t remember the name but maybe it will jog someone’s memory. If not I’ll let you know when I get back
