Getting used to it

Hi all,

Nah, I wouldn’t spend money on it, but I got a free copy of RR Track Lite with all the GarGraves libraries.

One of our customers is planning on a multi scale layout using GarGraves track - since there are no GG libraries in CADrail, I called GarGraves regarding some tech specs and info. Talked to a very nice gentleman and that’s how I got the free Lite copy. Now that I call Customer SERVICE. Didn’t even tell him how much GG track our customer has

Sooooooo all I need do now is get used to the program, should be another learning experience!  It just never ends, does it?

Learning experience…or a new toy to play with…

Warren,

It does have a toy-like appearance, but it should do a “good enough” job for those allergic to CAD.

And it has the libraries I require, but no “G” stuff … so maybe I’ll have to figure out how to generate a library, if I have the need.

Elisabeth had a good laugh at the “realistic tree” graphic, I chuckled at some of the other stuff.

You’re having too much fun. It has to be a toy…

I’ve used it, but still have some trouble with it. I guess my mind doesn’t bend that way.

The full version does have extensive LGB and Aristo libraries, but you have to pay for them. :frowning:

I bought it and as a beginner (read: ain’t had a train in 40 years) utilized it to finalize the railway design and create a purchase list for my first attempt. Actually think it helped smooth out some design issues (read: curves way tooooo tight) and gave me the confidence to bend some track to make things come together… so toylike it may be but I’m just a retired technical marketing, IT, and finance guy…not no design engineer… simple works for me…

Hmm… I bought it and did not read the manual. In minutes, I had snapped together a layout. This software is really easy to use, just select a track piece and drag it to another, and they snap together, no alignment problems.

There are also features to bend track, cut custom lengths etc.

I found it very easy to use, and likewise, allowed me to fit broader curves and gentler turnouts than I thought possible.

Same here…plus it’s fun to just play with…

I wasn’t going to comment on the ease of RR Track. The level is IMHO at MS Paint, dead easy once you look at the different tweak features. No manual required!

Accuracy? Hmmmm can’t comment on that until I do a few more things.

Is it inexpensive? Not if I consider the price of CADrail or similar CAD software.
Most annoying feature? Not being able to bring in one’s own libraries. (perhaps that only applies to the Lite version???)

It’s pretty accurate, i.e. when I assembled track according to the design, it was pretty darn close. It definitely fit in the space I designed it to, and there are several places where the clearance between the cars and walls is about 1/2" !

You can’t import your libraries, but I have been able to modify the libraries a bit, but only the text descriptions. The libraries are not in a text form.
