Getting iPads to work with Forums?

It is slowly getting better but using iPads to post on Forums still often results in the entire post ending up in a single paragraph.

LSC seems somewhat different in that some posts turn out with normal paragraphs but other posts (even on the same topic) may end up either in single or multiple paragraphs.

A simple one sentence with a paragraph before the poster’s name might or might not end up in a single line.

No doubt others with iPads (and perhaps other tablets) are having the same problems.

Does anyone know of a solution or is this just something to live with until improved web software solves it?

Thanks,

Jerry

FYI The above post is a good example in that it turned out just as I had written it.

My 2nd post was also correct which is far better than other forums.

I regularly use my Ipad to post in the forums and have never had a problem…

That is strange (to me anyway). Others have said the same thing (no problems) yet I have been running into this for years with iPads 1, 3, & 4 but not with regular PC’s or laptops (even Apple PC’s & laptops).

I’ve changed routers over the years so I would not think the routers would be causing it since they feed the PC’s and laptops as well as the iPads. Same with WiFi - only the iPads are affected. I have not tried iPhones (too tiny) but I would expect they would be the same.

I do have a lot of problems with my ISP (Centurylink) and I would not be surprised to find that could be the source of my problems. I guess I could try posting from outside locations away from Centurylink and see what happens.

Anyone have any ideas?

This forum recently has been adding extra “newlines” at the end of every line.

So, even though these lines I am typing have no blank lines between, there will be blank lines in the finished post.

This forum is actually not normal as compared to others.

It’s the Safari browser that is different. Too bad you cannot get a mainstream browser on your iPad.

Quirks using Schmartphones are oft very quirky. I get really odd window viewports, my curser can jump all over without much control, have really tough times making edits, and cannot post pics from anywhere. But these things seam to be the wave of the future so I guess we better get used to it.

Btw posting this from my Droid X.

Your right Vic. Us olde pharts need to lower our standards. Phone connections used to be quite quiet and very clear (remember pin-drop?) - TV signals were low-def and sometimes snowy, but they never locked up and stuttered like the digital signals do. Music used to have normal bass . Now it’s either none when being played through a phone or enough to loosen your fillings from a passing car.

Work just upgraded to Windows 8. Push the mouse pointer a little to close to the edge of the screen and all kinds of crap you didn’t want pops up.

Give me DOS, a land-line analog phone, vinyl records played through a tube amp and an old analog TV and I’ll be happy. They all worked great!

I agree but whether we like it or not iPhones iPods iPads and androids are part of the present and the future. While there are many things I don’t like about them I have to admit that the ability to dictate this post rather than type it sure makes life easier. Whether it is Siri with Apple or the record option with Windows 8 some parts of the future are undeniably better especially when you consider the handicapped people who can benefit so much from them such as my granddaughter. It may take some time but eventually things will become more compatible with the iPad and other tablets. Jerry

He’s right Jon, even TOC is on Windows 8 (although there was a small mushroom cloud over Washington state for a few weeks)

Greg

I’m not anti-technology. I just dislike it when the new stuff is inferior to what it replaces.

I am learning to tolerate Win 8. So far I haven’t discovered any of the whiz-bang stuff. Just trying to get all my existing apps to work on it.

]I got Google Chrome on mine…and I’m pretty sure FF has a mobile version too…

No firefox in Apple iphone, ipad, etc. Apple won’t allow them to use their own web engine.

Now Firefox is on every other platform.

It seems that when posting a new topic the paragraphing is correct but it is when replying to a topic that seems to be where the paragraphing is often lost.

Additionally as with this post when using an iPad and quick reply the text scrolls beyond the ability of the quick reply window to display it.

Since the iPad does not have a right arrow, it makes it difficult to see and type when the text is beyond the quick reply window. This is more of an observation than a complaint since it would be unreasonable to expect forums to comply with every device that might be used with them.

Double spacing of paragraphs seems to help.

What is confusing is that some people do not seem to have these problems with their iPads.

Jerry

Okay, now here is a concern. Jon has been one of my “go to” guys for all the new fangled technology. Now he’s saying it is too much for him. Think of where this leaves some one like us. Life is always interesting, many times confusing, somewhat frustrating, but always interesting.

Hi Ric,

You have a good point. I was not suggesting that Bob NEEDS to do anything. iPads are just another technological toy (as is IMHO Windows 8) for most of us.

My wife and I and pretty much our entire family are now hooked on iPads, iPhones, iPods etc. but I would be the first to say that they can be a real PITA to try to do many things with them. I could easily list as many things I dislike (even hate) about them as I could mention things I like.

I was fed up with all the problems I had with Windows XP and wanted to dump Windows and PC’s but in spite of all the really neat things about iPads etc. I found that for me I could not live without desktops and laptops. Then I found I could not live without Windows after all.

Since no one else in the family knows much about computers and my memory is fading, the future of computing is not something I look forward to.

Life with DOS was a lot more organized.

Now I find myself taking photos with the iPad which is really slick because I can focus on anywhere, zoom in or out and see the full size picture before I snap it. I then end up emailing the photos to myself so I can download them into a Windows 8 PC where I can resize them and then upload them to freight yard.

I’m making a list of these annoying things so I can phone Apple and have them talk me through the technical problems but they are unable to help with anything that is non-Apple.

Jerry

If anyone knows how to get a video from an iPad to freight yard (via a Windows 8 PC if that would help) I would appreciate it if they would mention it.

Thanks,

Jerry
