Large Scale Central

Get the structures level!

I know, you don’t need reminding. Doing a lot of couch railroading this past Spring - that’s the step up from armchair railroading - helped sort out a common problem: how to get the structures level. My solution calls for cheap slate tiles, which are then cut to shape

I make the base large enough to also fit the figures that go with it on there.

Ground cover and figures are glued in place using Weldbond adhesive. And then it’s time to “plant”, depending on the location I use the three point method or the two line method. Rocks and flagstone remnants are very handy for this. BTW the guy with the rucksack is “Heinrich the Hiker” - definitely not a local since he missed the turnoff to the station. Now the question will be “Does the Goat Girl speak proper German or will she answer him in Swiss dialect.”

Apart from getting things level, this will also be a handy format to store the structures during the winter.

Beautiful looking models H-J, full of interest.

Regarding the answer the young girl gives and in which dialect she uses depends, I guess, on the question Heinrich asks her. lol

Nice work HJ and good idea on using the slate tiles.

As to the girl…I think your story has holes in it. Swiss cheese has holes. …ergo…! Good sound reasoning can answer any question.

1st picture, building on the left with the bell…Scratch? Got more pics?

Of course, of course! Anyway, the chapel got the same treatment. After the hike up the hill one has either to sit down and relax or study the map and have a little discussion on “where to next?”.

The old couple are just about ready for their picnic. Typically Swiss that she lugged the basket up the hill. He probably needed both hands to fill his pipe and keep it puffing, his wife was also puffing, but for a different reason.

BTW the bench is an In-House product

The next ones will have laser engraved town names and sayings.

No, that is a slightly gussied-up POLA model 331840.

The third one on a base is the Grison Haybarn

Nice idea HJ. What type of roofs are you simulating ?

The haybarn has a steel roof weighted with stones. The roofing strips started out as cat food cans (the cheap stuff from Walmart we inherited together with the cat). The rust on the roof is the real thing! The goat barn has a stone roof made out of styrene. That dates back to my "where can I get decent slate" days.

Construction of the Haybarn

HJ,

Railroad is coming along real nice. I remember the postings of pictures of building the ponds.

As I commented in another post recently HJ it does look superb.

You can’t beat real building materials for durability outdoors - and it helps if you have a family member who is in the construction trade. lol.

Looks great and a good idea using the slate for a base.
