Large Scale Central

George Schreyer website seems to be closed

You use a website grabber program (there are many free ones). This time I used ‘Deep Vacuum’ (on Mac OSX) as some others seemed to ‘clog’ with the content from the archive.

Once the grabber prog has done its downloading stuff (it may take some time depending on your internet connection speed and how speedy the archive is at the time), you can then find the ‘index’ page html (in this case it is…‘tips.html’) in the first web folder that was downloaded (these folders will have long numbers as their titles).
Then make an alias (link file) of it outside of all of the folders of content to click on to kick start the website content.

Not sure if this is public knowledge, but Randy Stone from MLS posted “George had a stroke a couple of years ago. He’s been working hard to recover, but typing is really hard for him. I emailed him a couple of months ago and have not gotten a reply.” Not sure what that implies other than health issues seem to be the source of the issue. If one assumes (I know - dangerous) that the stroke has taken his ability to enjoy the hobby, he may well have let the site lapse deliberatly…under those conditions I might …

It would be nice if anyone knows George personally, or has good contact information (ie. telephone, snail mail) would try to make contact and see what the whole stroy is.

I know him, he and his wife have visited. He called a few months back and told me he had had a stroke. I’ll contact him by phone.

I know of George as a member of Los Angeles Live Steamers. I DID notice that his name was missing from the 2013 member roster.

Greg, if you get the chance to talk to him, please make sure he knows just how much we all appreciate what he has done for us in the g scale hobby. I wish him a full recovery and hope he can join us online sometime.

Thanks

Also, I believe Tiny’s website can be found on TrainWeb. I think that’s where I saw it recently.

Thanks George, for bringing it back !

Doug, George used to have another grr in nearby green valley. He almost lost it in the slide fire. I wonder if they held onto that.

That was a close call. George was really helpful to me when I was getting started.

Yes, we did send a strike team up to the inyo and I sent a couple of my folks.

I’ll second that. His site was the first that popped up when look for information to trace a fault with a Bachmann loco a long time ago when I was new to the hobby. Referenced it many times since. Good to hear it appears he is on the mend. All the best.

He knows we all love him. I made my website after inspiration from his and I’ve told him several times. (Mine’s now bigger but many inputs from George)

He had not updated it in a while, and I contacted him and urged him to keep it up and going. He started going to some more of the large scale shows. He came over my house and we had a good time.

Great guy.

Greg

George’s site sure helped me. Glad to hear he’s recovering.

While I’m at it, a big thank you to Greg for his website. Another must see/must have for any g scaler.
