Large Scale Central

Geoffbuilt Shay 0141999

First time posting… and I am quite excited!

I have been successful in negotiating terms to repatriate a Geoffbuilt Shay back to its country of origin! Within the coming weeks, I anticipate I will get an abrupt crash course in live steam!

Looking forward to the adventure, and hearing the hiss of steam here in the Yukon!

Welcome to the site! Can’t wait to see pictures of your new loco.

This is from the seller… I will be excited to post when it arrives!

Now I have to focus on getting track laid… but up here… I have snow up to my gate latch… and likely will continue to have it up there till the end of April. Then have to co tend with the frost likely until mid May!

I suppose that is the fun of building North of 60!

Might be a good idea to build a track on stilts or a raised bed?

Welcome and good luck with your new endeavor.

It will be mostly raised. I have 25 trestle bents ready to go (still need a few more). Once it is as the back of the yard it will be elevated!

Welcome aboard Chad.

Welcome Chad, and I’ll add my interest, to that of the others, in seeing your future photos!

Welcome Chad,
Are you by chance in Salisbury NB ,
I believe that were Geoff was from

Welcome to LSC! As you can tell from my signature, I’m a Shay fan.

at what distances from each other?

and be welcome.

No I am in Whitehorse. But I am repatriating it to Canada!

The plan was based on 6-inch spacing. Based on original Great Northern plans. I have tried to keep it all to scale, however the nuts/bolts are slightly out of scale, because the narrowest threaded rod I could find that functioned was 2MM.

Manufactured out of stripped fence boards. Will be staining it and are brown so it will be similar to the Myra Canyon trestles above Kelowna, BC (Kettle Valley Railway).

I am a fan…having worked on one in Summerland, BC in the late 90’s. Was given the chance to run as the fireman a few times.

Echoing the others, “E komo mai! Welcome!” I’ll take the challenge of the tropics over the snow any day of the week! Looking forward to seeing your Railroad come to life!
