Top car I believe is bachmann. Bottom is at the B&O museum…

So that being all said is there a paint out there that may be in spray form close to these…?.. I’ve looked at Krylon and Valspar and no luck…

My suggestion, FWIW, go to the paint dept in either Lowes or HD and check the color cards for the color you’re looking for. For about $3 they’ll mix up a sample pint bottle of paint for you. That stuff goes a long way. And most likely it will take 2 or 3 coats to satisfactorily cover it. I doubt very much if you’ll find a spray can that will match the color you want.

I found that a coat of primer really helps. I painted a wood boxcar without primer and the red is a bit streaky, even with a few coats. Then I primed the next wood boxcar and the red went on much more even.

As for the craft paint being thin, that is why I prefer the Ceramcote, its not watery and it covers well. But many of the craft stores around here quit carrying it.

The paint seems to soak into the wood and after three coats of paint in between drying it still does not want to cover it.

That’s why they sell wood primer. It seals all the pores and then the paint stays on top.

Spray can primer works, as you found in painting the bottom of the car. I often spray wood with the grey or brown primer before using a color.

Sanding sealer sure seems to work best(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I haven’t posted anything lately due to I haven’t been working on it for a few days now.My Physical therapy has been kicking my butt on my shoulder so have not felt to much like working on the car… Hopefully will get back to it soon. I am ready to paint. picked some up at Lowes that I had mixed so it will be hand painted…

One hand painted?

After a project like that I usually have one hand painted…the other held the brush!

Eric, that happens to me when I use a rattle can…

Nah I have pretty good use of my right arm/hand now. Shoulder is doing pretty good and am able to do more now. So I want to start painting… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
