General Status

Howdy folks

I’ve been MIA from the site for several weeks, and will probably be so until at least mid-June. Between work and personal issues, I havent had much time for anything train relatd.

But I thought I’d throw out a status on various things to keep all y’all informed.

First, the site. I havent done any code work on the site. I’ve been working 12 hour days, and the last thing I want to do after that is to dive into issues here. The site is working fine, with a couple of oddities, but I have heard of no “This is a giant problem” issues.

TrainOps (the program). I have the big “cars not being picked up” problem fixed, but, since I bought a new computer, I dont have the install maker working yet. If you email me, I will zip up the executable and send it along.

TrainOps (the event). Is on, and, like other years we’ll be operating at Stan’s on Sunday. More details as things get more organized.

Thanks for your patience and support.

Your efforts are appreciated, Bob. Take it easy.

My 28-inch screen and new Mac Mini have solved most of my issues. Take care of yourself!

I agree, the site is running fine, no problems and still amazed at your smooth transition.

Nice to be here.

Hope your “stuff” all works out and settles down to a “dull roar”.

Greg

Glad to hear you were only MIA. The site is still the best in the business, even if it has a few minor flaws. Great work Bob.

Thanks Bob

Thanks Bob. I’ll email you on TrainOps. Glad you stomped on that one! I’ve been using the program a lot.

Thanks for your efforts Bob.

The site runs great. I hope everything turns out ok.

I guess were better off serving under General Status than under Major Disaster.

Vic, your posts never fail to amuse me. Keep up the good work!

Or Corporal Punishment.

I thought Corporal Punishment was Major Disaster’s chief assistant?

Hi folks

One of the ‘issues’ that was taking up much of my time is over. My dad passed away last Thursday after a 15 year battle against Alzheimer’s. (http://www.robertsmitchell.com/book-of-memories/1594843/McCown-John/obituary.php)

Work is still crazy (the life of a successful startup), but at least Ill have time to play trains, and even be on my own train site.

Hi Bob. I get exactly where you’re coming from. I know it’s both very sad and a huge relief when an Alzheimer’s victim finally reaches the end of the long trail - and the long trial this dreadful disease imposes on the family.

My own Mum passed away of the same cause just about a month ago, and my siblings and I had been preoccupied with her situation, and that of our dear old Dad for several years. (He’s 94, God love him.) .

My own backyard railroad has taken a back seat for such a long time around here.

But now, with Mum gone, Dad is able to look after himself better on his own.

And since her passing I have been able to make some progress back there. I had the entire club over last weekend for a work party. We worked, then we partied. I am doing a complete rebuild of the L&S RR, starting with the main freightyard, which will be the heart of operations. Thanks to my fellow clubmembers we broke the logjam, and things at last are looking up.

I send you my condolences and my hope that now, better and less stressful days lie ahead for you and your family. God bless you.

My condolences, Bob. It’s a terrible thing to watch someone go with Alzheimers. My mom passed away two years ago due to the same disease.

My condolences as well Bob. It’s difficult to loose a parent, but we all go through it eventually. Take comfort in the fact that he is finally at peace.

My heart felt condolences. My own mom passed away in 2000 from Alzheimer’s. I know that the end is hard to take, as it effect all the vital functions.

I’m sorry to hear. My condolences.
