Garden Railways 30 Years

I have the Adobe reader, its still a PITA. Some of the forum threads on the Trains forum are dozens of pages long, yet in Adobe web format its impossible to go to the last thread, it defaults always to the first page and you keep having to load more comments which is ridiculous when its a 200 page topic.

Also its not possible to quote is the adobe format and the options are extremely limiting when posting, its pretty much just post, no font changes etcs no smilies, very very basic.

You can change it to the full site which is extremely slow, and for me to post anything usually means switching it to HTML format, which is a bag of cats in itself. So I will read the posts but my replies often are limited due to the smartphone access limitaions.

Vic your loosing me. You subscribed to a Magazine which comes in a PDF format. Then you state you cannot comment on the GR forum which is an entirely different beast.

Vic,

Sorry, I don’t get it. If it is such a PITA why use that format? Why not use an ordinary computer with a “normal” browser and be done?

OT By the way everytime I drive into town or am on the way home I drive by a place which goes by the nomiker “Extreme Pita”. Sheesh what’s next?!

Well that was the point I was trying to convey in my minuscule frustration…kinda

I ‘thought’ I’d be able to view the Mag (digi) on my little Android tablet…I couldn’t, so I canceled. I don’t want to view it on my Netbook or Laptop…personal gripe, that’s all

So since I’m kinda back, and my kids are excited I thought-what the hay, I’ll re-up the subscription to keeps us motivated. at the check-out I was offered a digital subscription as well for an additional $6.

Cool-I thought, till I tried to open on my Android device…it’s Adobe and now that’s a no-go…called in to GRR CS and canceled the digital sub-easy enough, but not sure why they would choose a 3rd party vendor to supply the digital mag who is unable to deliver to the 2nd most popular mobile OS in the planet (Android)…?

I have the digital subscription to Garden Railways. It uses a program called Zinio on my Android tablet. No pdfs. Works great.

Yeah, It sent me over there too, and I got the App, but when I tried to open it said I needed Adobe…so I selected that and from there it broke the news that it wasn’t supported…who knows…not a deal killer-I like print better, but thought I’d try it

HJ the problem is you cant always have a tablet on hand. For example when Im on the road its nice to take the cell phone out and read the digital magazines. Or if you are at a club meet and you want to show someone an article. You cant take an ordinary computer into a car or while waiting for bus etc… Plus a cell phone does not need a wifi connection. All you need is reception from a tower.

I have a windows phone and that’s even worst. I cant do much with it. I got the Garden Rail electronic subscription hoping to use it but found windows does not support it grrrrrr. My Android did.

I agree Cal the print is much better.

Oooops, I guess I’m showing my age. I don’t have a Smart Phone - my standard remark is “I’m not smart enough” - and I use the texting function on my phone very infrequently.

I don’t take a computer on holidays, I’m on holidays. (http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/phpBB2/images/smiles/ani_wink.gif)(http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif)

Some think they need a laptop on the road to download the gazillion pictures and videos they shoot. I don’t, I have enough memory chips.

I still haven’t got around to downloading some books to my tablet(s), I bought those as inexpensive graphical throttles for the GRR. (http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)Inexpensive as in “Have a look at the price of ZIMO throttles”

OTOH I do subscribe to OnStar, just in case I should need help someday or when I want to call while driving. (http://www.rhb-grischun.ca/phpBB2/images/smiles/ani_wink.gif)

Different strokes for different folks.

Oh yeah, the News gets delivered via the radio.
