Interesting place you’ve got Boomer. Here in N. Florida, everything is overgrown green and very lush.
Boomer, nice shots of the full layout… Thanks for taking the time to post them…
Wow…that’s amazing and depressing at the same time Boomer.
When was the last time you had anything green on your property, two years ago? And how will it ever come back…
This may be a stupid question (I have lots of them) but is the ground over run with ants because of no ground cover? Just curious because when I bought my first house 15 years ago the property was never taken care of and needless to say it had no lawn to speak of, just some weeds and dirt.
If you stood still for more then a few seconds you were soon covered in a swarm of ants!
We have been getting plenty of rain up here in New England…ever since I started building my layout a little over a month ago!
I bet if I came down there it would follow me, I always seem to have a dark cloud with me where ever I go!
Maybe all of us on the East Coast should pitch in and send you a bucket full of rain water. We have plenty to spare.
Nice layout, despite the drought.
a bucket of water??? We’re railroaders, lets all send him a tank car full of water…
Its always amazing to see pictures from the southwest. Sunch a different from our lush environment. Seeing a brown spot in these parts is unheard of. 16 inches of rain? We got that in the last month ugh… Your line looks great.
Despite no ground cover, I still think the railroad looks great.
Just some observations. I like the smoker, I have the same one, but I converted mine to propane so I didn’t have to watch the fire so much. I would take my well seasoned one over the new fangled larger ones. I may not be able to smoke 6 or 7 sets of ribs but my 3 racks will taste better.
Like the greenhouse, mine is a lot smaller than yours. I have to admit, I never even planted this year. I’ve been too busy with other projects. I wonder, do you use any large crushed rock in the bottom of your containers? I put 1 1/2" clean rock in the bottom of my containers and then put a small PVC pipe in. I then filled it up with dirt. I ran a drip line down into the pipe so I could water from the bottom up. I was told that helps prevent the mold growing on the surface of the dirt around the plants.
Also, the comments about fires. We have the same type of policies around here. About 10 years ago we had a major forest fire come near my property. Thankfully my Father-in-law and myself had thinned the forest on the property, along with cutting any tall trees back from the buildings. The fire fighters said that since we had done our jobs right, if the fire came they should be able to protect all our buildings. Since that time I have always been vigilant in keeping the forest thinned.
My pasture looked like that last year, but we had rains this spring and they just cut the hay. I have a well, so can water my railroad and yard. You under water restrictions there? You are dong well, considering the drought, your layout is hanging in there, so you do the same!
Boomer,
I’m nearby in Rio Rancho. From 1/1 to the last week we had .59" of any type of moisture. In the last week we have almost doubled that! Maybe there is hope (ha, ha!) The last couple years have been just as bad. Check it out: http://www.albuquerquewx.com
The bad part for me is I’m gone for four months during the summer and must depend on my drip system to keep the garden alive. I have mounted cameras on the garden and post pictures on the internet so that I can keep track and get down there ASAP if necessary (I’m in the CO mountains sweating fires for the summer)

Nice plants! I was over at your other post of the B&B Yards, and found this one. Because I got driven inside by the second downpour today! We have an above ground pool, and since 1 June I had to empty some 4 times so far! So we are at the other extreme as I have never had to drain some before.
It is shocking when I stop to think of the extremes we all have. Everyone had there own burden. Oh well.
Enjoy the veggies!
Those veggies look better then what I buy here locally!
We didn’t get much rain here either all summer, I am glad we decided to hold off planting anything until the fall.
I feel bad. I didn’t plant anything in the greenhouse this year. I just got too dang busy. Now it looks like a weed infested mess. Oh well, I shall re-double my efforts next year!
